Rock Band 3 is out soon. It will run around $170 + dollars (But that's an estimate and depending on what peripherals you get). The game will have peripherals like: The mustang controller: 102 buttons and emulates real guitar playing.
The Real Fender Squire Stratocaster: Which can be used in game or as a real guitar.
The (musical) keyboard: Which functions as a musical keyboard and can be played like a keytar.
The Drumkit: Which I believe has improved cymbal placement.
Now where Rock Band 3 really shines is the pro mode. It has you playing the actual guitar parts and (right hand) parts for the keyboard. The way the pro guitar mode works is that the notes scroll at you on the string they are played on but with the fret number that should be pressed down (like a guitar tab). The chords come at you in a chord shape and then next to the chord is the name of the chord that should be played.
Harmonix created the Pro Guitar charts for songs through careful audio interpretation of master tracks and through watching live performances of the songs to ensure they were using the correct chords.
Something that is really useful for Rock Band 3 is that the note charts on expert pro mode have had a lot of time put into them. That basically mean high quality guitar tabs mostly more accurate than the web. And Rock Band 3 has a large selection of songs because you can download your old downloadable songs.
I also see it as a decent way to figure out how well you've learned a song. At least it gives you some way to see how well you've "layed" (when on pro mode expert difficulty).
Learn an actuall instrument, people are getting lazy...
I guess I'll just say these two things AGAIN. The Pro Mode songs on Expert Difficulty are basically using full fledged guitar tabs. Squire is making a real guitar that you use to play the game. It's a real instrument.
The game is given you professional quality guitar tabs when you play in prod mode expert difficulty. The game itself is a great tab database for anyone who knows how to play real guitar.
That's like saying don't learn guitar songs from Youtube or from institutional DVD's or online tabs. Get real sheet music and a professional tutor, you lazies.
Harmonix has really got this one in the bag, first releasing Guitar Hero 1 and 2, and then moving on to a game which supports a full band. I honestly thought Rock Band 3 could go no where, seeing how Rock Band 2's only obvious changes was that Drum Solos were added, and online play was improved.
With a new instrument, The Beatles Rock Band three way singing, and some crazy realistic tracks I know what I'm getting on day one.
Rock band was meant as a game to take over air guitar not real guitar... People sorta have to understand that. Its almost retarded to even begin thinking that rockband was taking over actual instruments.. I mean theres people out there who'd rather not spend 3-4 years of there life learning an actual instrument... Nor have that amount of money. Just saying. Its easy to say learn an actual instruement, but actually doing its sort of an extreme hassel... Anyways Rock band is a game where you also get to listen to some of your favourite music while playing, or even learning about some non known bands that you might like.... Which is why people enjoy playing it... Who doesn't want to rock out listening to some avenged, disturbed, dream theatre (what ever your genre is) with (i guess up to 7 now) friends... Its a party game...
If your telling people to go learn a real instrument then give them the 600 to 800 bucks to go buy an instrument, take lessons, and give them that 1 hour a day or so to practice... Put your money where your mouth is...
either its rb3 or else another party game but it doesnt even have the drum set thingy its just a thing where it picks up the general area where your hitting with the stciks so ur pretty much air drumming and all of the stuff is true i read it in ptom (for the ppl who dnt know thats Playstation The Official Magizine)
Uhm, google "rb3 pro mode". And I play 4 "real" instruments. But nice try anyways
I'm excited for this game. Gonna wait until it gets cheaper though. I'm also waiting for the MIDI adapter to come out so I can hook up the keyboard I already have to my PS3
