Just like you can't dig yourself out of a hole! We can't spend our way out of debt! We need to cut spending and borrow less. Why is the governments accounting different then our accounting! 13.9 trillion dollars is over the top.

A prime example would be to reduce the military budget

Cutting the military budget while we are at war doesn't sound like such a hot idea.

Determining what is useless spending isn't always that easy. But even if we did wouldn't it not be better to re-divert that extra money into programs that aren't wastes?

So, maybe cutting some military and throwing all that money into education and healthcare. I think that would be the most beneficial way to do things.

It would although the net amount of money being spent would still be the same.

@Walker all the information I can find points to America having a massive trade deficit, one of the worst in the world actually.

Think about how much money government wastes on things that the government shouldn't even do.

So what do you want to pull the plug on first wars or Grandma?

I live in America, but I'm starting to look at it with shame
We are officially a democratic republic, but with that new Health package and all that stuff coming out (I WILL EAT YOUR FAMILY, OBAMA!!!) we are changing into more of a socialism. Then after that, when the people riot at the outrageous taxes and takeover, we will be communists. After that, China will demand all of it's money back (we won't have it), and then we will be living in a China in America.

Could you lease pack your bags and leave this section, dive into a dictionary/encyclopedia, and don't leave until you're informed enough to never say something like this again. We are and probsbly always will be very very far awaw from socialism. The healthcare bill will not make us socialist, and there will be no rebellion due to taxes because the taxes aren't very high compared to the rest of the world. And about China demanding its money back . . . that'll never happen. we're their most important trade partner, and national debt is normal.

I think it's kind of funny that there is any discussion on this. Can anyone truly say that having a lot of debt is a good thing?

We do have a solid trade deficit, mainly because we import so much from China and other nations with very cheap labor costs. The good news for economy, though, is that our GDP still remains more than our national debt. This means that we produce more value than what we owe and indicates that our economy is still quite strong.
