If you could choose between a game where you are a tank and have to destroy other players(multyplayer) or where you are all soldiers? Would you even consider playing such a game? (something like real-time Worms game).
It's a 2D game, top-bottom view. Multiplayer, tanks(or soldiers) are moved by the keyboard, and each player uses a mouse to control the "aim".(Mutiple mice in a single computer). Split-screen up to 4 players. Or more if you have more than one screen.
Never really played Tank-Games, But I think that I'll have to go with Soldier games. Because with tank games, it wouldn't be too much fun... One shot already destroying stuff. Not challenging at all. :P
Yeah.... well.... in Call of Duty, it's a soldier game, but there's like 1 level where you can be a tank. Well, I prefer soldier because you can do mostly anything. Call of Duty World at War is AWESOME!!! AND MW2.
When you say soldier, do you mean like a FPS(first person shooter) game like COD, 3rd person, or over the shoulder (yes there is a difference between 3rd and over the shoulder for those who thought they were the same). I wouldn't want to play a game where there is both tanks and soldier cause then the first people that get in the tanks would dominate the soldiers then the soldiers would get pissed and leave therefore making the game have a bad rep for those who experience this. But if your talking about a MW2 flash or something like that it would be beast i guess but definitely not a mix of both tanks and soldiers.
I'd say a soldier game if you're talking a "worms" type game. Mostly because soldiers can "Jump" and whenever a game like that tries to make a tank have a jumping ability or tries to let them drive up a 90 degree wall it just looks odd and sometimes leaves people stuck at really wierd angles to shoot from :-/
The principle is exactly the same. I couldn't care less what the sprite is when I'm doing exactly the same thing. In effect I think soldiers would be slightly better because that allows for a more detailed landscape, or a landscape you can put to better use. For example, you could add shrubbery, a soldier could hide in this for tactical advantage whereas tanks would provide much slower gameplay which isn't approved by a more contemporary generation of gamers. Furthermore, your miniature poll gives a pretty good indication that soldiers are the best way to go.

No there's not. Third person just means it's not first person, or outside of the character's actual view. Looking over the shoulder is not first person and so automatically third.
