I saw THIS article on yahoo...

1200 species found in the amazon rainforest in the last decade alone. Bald parrots, purple tarantulas and many many more. The article says they are not even including insects in these figures.

It also mentions we have, in the last 50 years, cleared an area of the rainforest twice the size of spain! Holy shm*t!?!

Spain is not a small country.

Is this really a dog eat dog world where the most able must survive, or do we now hold a greater responsibility, kinda like spiderman.
"Those with great power hold great responsibility!"

Wow me with your wow's or tickle me with your injustice.
Or be the devils advocate and pluck em all.

Well considering the Amazon rainforest is quite large and very dense and most of the expiditons that go never return i'm not surpised that we have found so many new anaimals and we will continue to find new ones as they try to adapt and evolve to the rapid lifestyle of the human race. There will one thing that people will always need and that will be land and we only have a fixed amount at this current time so I get why so much land must be destoryed as we are growing and expanding at the fastest rate possible. Personaly I'm for animals defending themselves just like we have to, if it can't give me assumement then what is the point of having, sure it may be critial to the ecosystem but if it can't adapt then truely there will be no way of saving it.

Holy shm*t!?!

OPEN YOU EYES LOGGERS! I mean jeez, the cure for a cancer could lie in one of the new discoveries.
kinda like spiderman.

Eh, he is too much of an American based hero. Try.... uh.... wait... is there any superheroes based outside the north American area?
The people also need to be careful with the insects especially, a super malaria virus is what we don't need.

That's great we've discovered so much. I suppose I'm curious as why we have to cut the rainforest down.

I suppose I'm curious as why we have to cut the rainforest down.

The timber (some people say lumber) industry. Wood has quite an expensive large corner of the world market, used from desks to flashy cars, tissues to paper, books to floorboards the list is huge. Timber on it's own can be mega expensive when it is the right wood, grain and colour. There is many separate prices of wood. The location (such as the Amazon) also goes towards the price. Next time you see some old looking floor boards don't shift your gaze as some types of timber can be worth thousands especially if they are antiques. The wood industry was huge to begin with, now that prices are going up for wood many people opt for "imitation" wood which is a thin layer of timber coated with laminate (not always, i'm pretty sure there are others).
People also cut down the rain forest for farming and agriculture which is a terrible excuse as there is plenty of land if done properly. I'll probably think of some more reasons and in depth explanations but i'm tired.

Oh and if anyone is wondering, I oppose cutting down so many trees unnecessarily.

We can regrow the timber in better ways. Wood farms are fairly common in scotland and tho they aint great for the ecosystem, so far as Im led to believe anyway, they are a shnell of a lot better that cutting down the worlds lungs.

What with these new discoveries I think its about time to push on peoples minds again to stop choppin em down. Efan, Sure there may be super maleria but there may, as you also say, be a cure for cancer. Humand can make their own deadly viruses and whatnot, anything nature can conjure up, we can do better.
And I only used spiderman as a popular example, I'm multicultural, what can I say

so maybe there is a muffin man living on dreary lane?!?

We know whats on dreary lane... and it aint muffin men.

I read that too
Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool.
I just wish people didn't have to cut down so much of the forest, though.

Humans are like a parasite, I have no trouble believing that there will be a point when we grow into a Sci-fi race that travels from solar system to solar system, draining planets of their resources.

Yeah I can see that happening as well. Humans could easily be the bad guys
