Hi everyone! I'm a long time lurker and signed up a little while ago to get more involved in the AG community, but have mostly been confined to the programming section. I've been working on some game prototypes in my spare time, as well as one major game thats almost complete, and it's been extremely fun! I love designing and making games, and it's something I'd like to do as a full time job sometime in the future.
For now though, to be honest, I'd like to cut my hours from my current job and focus on making games for exclusive sponsorships, but I'd really like some solid examples/prices so I know if it's a viable option or not. I realize numbers vary quite a bit from game to game, because everyone creates products of differing qualities, but that is exactly why I'd like some specific examples.
From interviews I know that Steambirds alone garnered around $40k due to it's production quality and replay value, but it seems to be such a rare case that I can't base any solid opinions off of it. FGL shows that most decent games receive a sponsorship of $400-$6000, with less than 10 games each month seeing above that amount; but without being able to see the quality of those games, it is again unreliable.
I'll be releasing my game before I decide to cut my work hours, just to see what kind of response it gets, but yeah, I was wondering if any developers would care to link to their games and share how much they've received for it. I know many developers don't like revealing that kind of information, but I thought I'd ask, as this will adversely affect my life, and I want to be as sure as I can before taking the plunge.
Thanks for taking the time to read this long winded/serious post! I hope I'm not being too intrusive by asking about this. If you wouldn't mind sharing but don't want to post it on a public forum, please feel free to PM me or email me at Brendan.J.Bennett@gmail.com
