Hey, guys. My name is Mann. I'm new but I though I'd start a topic. (: So, here it goes.
How many of you are in Martial Arts of some form? -Karate, Tae kwan doe, ju jitsu, Exa. (Sorry if I mispelled)
I, myself, am in Karate. I've been talking it for a could months now and it's really helped me out. I have better control. And my mind seems to be at peace. I don't know, that's just me. But for those of you who don't know what Martial is; It's a form of fighting. It includes technique in punching, kicking, blocking, wrestling, weapons, and more. Ask if you have any more questions about what it is. So, I'm going to get to my point. How many of you take and enjoy Martial Arts? What kind? How long have you been in it? What is your belt color? and what are some things you know what you would like to share about it? Feel free to further expand my topic.
And for those of you who are not in Martial Arts, this can include you as well. Ask some questions. See what it's about. I have plenty of answers. If you have gotten this far than I suppose my attempt at entertaining you and getting you to post here is halfway successful. I would appreciate it if you finished my success. Ha-ha. Thanks for reading, guys. Peace.
Anyway, truth be told, I never actually attended any martial arts class in my life - I did pick up a few karate and ju jitsu moves from a friend who did study various martial arts. I've worked those into my own unique fighting style with some pretty good techniques and room for improvisation in situations that demand it. I'm currently working on creating my own styles that combine the use of a staff with some moves to disable (not as in 'ut them in a wheelchair' my opponents and some rather... dirty moves.
I first started work on my own technique at about 12 years old. I didn't have much speed or tremendous strength so I relied heavily on the ability to block and make decisive strikes - this involved a lot of what some people would call 'fighting dirty' but it worked well enough and developed over the years into a refined fighting style with room for improvisation and not improvisation with room for a refined fighting style.
I did taekwondo for two years and achieved red belt black strip (the belt in between red and first dan). Then I stopped for a while because something came up. I still practice some tawkwondo from time to time just in case someone tries to break in and I have to kick their ass but I do it for fun also.
I use to take Karate. What the guy taught was actually a mix of his own techniques and the higher ups were encourages to develop their own styles.
As for naming your ranks, really it doesn't mean much of anything to say what belt color you are. Different places, will assign different colors, for different skill levels. Some places might not even have the same colors for the ranks, for instance you could be a red belt in one place but in another place meet the criteria of a black belt.
