I could spot that a mile a away, and reformed means changed or something I think.

I ask every catholic to kindly read a bible, you will be rather shocked at the liberties the church has given itself over time. Take confession, it's not in the bible, the vatican gave itself these powers.

Many versions of Christianity does this and they all cherry pick to one extent or another.

I am a catholic, I really don't mean to be offensive or like unfair okay? But my opinion I think there are more catholics in the world. Since the countries from Europe were catholic and modernized a lot of the other countries.

At last count there were 1.1 billion people who identified themselves as Catholics - this probably includes those who were 'catholic by birth' so to speak and those who don't practice at all. I expect the number of real, practicing catholics to be a large percentage lower than that.

I am protestant. but Avorne, don't think that atheist is the best. like: when the pest came to the romans, who were just like atheists, the only ones who cared for the ill people were christians.

this doesn't mean that christians are better. (chrusades, and that's just one example.) thinking you are better is everything exept christian.

but pleas don't look down on us. you wouldn't like to be threatend that way, only because your religion (or the lack of) and, even if 'don't do anything to someone else what you wouldn't like to be done to you' is a christian philosopy, I think most people would agree. wouldn't you?

I'm sorry but it's impossible not to look down on those that intentionally blind themselves.

Your probably right, I use to have a friend who said the Bible was a load of bull but still identified himself as a Catholic.

No it's not impossible, you don't have to look down on someone just for baseless beliefs.

even if 'don't do anything to someone else what you wouldn't like to be done to you' is a christian philosopy, I think most people would agree. wouldn't you?

Yes it is. It's one I wish more Christians would follow. Though this isn't exclusive to Christianity.

That may be more a sort of civilization mentality or side-effect, doesn't have to be religion-based. But I'm not trying to defend anyone, and I may also very well be mistaken.
Also, weren't the romans polytheists (Jupiter and company)? Being all fervent about offerings and fortune-tellings isn't very atheist-like...

it was common to them to offer to a god regually. but they didn't think much of the afterlife, and about sins and good deeds.

Hmm.. thanks to you I noticed I do not know anything about afterlife in roman culture; maybe it's because they have none as you say. I'll have to do some research..

If you bothered to pick up a copy of the trial and death of socrates, being an atheist was the main charge against him.

He was talking about romans. Socrates was greek.
And if you mean the black plague, the church's answer to it was "Pray!"

Well what could you do against that disease back then hmmm?

Oh and the world's largest charity, whose mission right now is ending malaria in africa, is the gates foundation, founded and run by Bill Gates, an atheist.

Wrong. Largest is Stitching Ingka Foundation.
