Falls dead.

You won't be getting off so easily.

D: why?!?!

I can't tell you that, it would spoil the adventure.

Anyway, a passing peasant offers to take care of the manticore in the party's absence for free. The party thanks him, then uses the scrolls to transport them to Cormanthyr.

The city itself is full of people: perhaps you could ask one for directions.

Walks up to a civilian.
"There was a wizard we were supposed to meet here. Know where I might find him?"

"A wizard?" the peasant asks, looking confused. "Oh, you must mean Handragath." The peasant gives you directions to Handragath's house. "He might not be there, though, he's gone a lot of the time."

You go to the house of Handragath. You see a tall but hunchbacked human inside, who is too old to be middle aged but too young to be elderly. He is bent over a scroll, but when he hears your approach he looks up.
"Ah, good, you must be the adventurers I sent for," he says, smiling. You are taken aback by the sound of his voice: although he is old, Handragath's voice is still high-pitched and clear, and it sounds very young. "My name is Handragath. Pleased to meet you."

"Ah," Handragath says, clasping his knobbly hands together. "Of course. I am here to commission you to investigate nearby ruins. They are what is left of a wizard's tower, which was destroyed in an attack by a dragon nearly five decades ago. You see, I have a claim on the contents of the tower. The wizard who built it was my father's uncle, my great-uncle, and as it stands I am his only known living relative. By all rights, the ruins of the tower and everything inside are mine. My great-uncle who built the tower, Darnarest the Bladesmith, was a wizard who concerned himself with the creation of magic weapons. Now, I could care less about any magical weapons contained therein, I have no use for them, but I would very much like to reclaim my great-uncle's spellbook if at all possible. I would retrieve it myself, but at the moment I am too fatigued to do so. At my age, I am far better suited to a quiet, scholarly life of study, and to let you young folks do the heavy lifting. The spellbook in question is about a foot square, three inches thick, and bound in steel plates with gold inlay on the cover. I must warn you though: my great-uncle probably put traps or guardians in his tower, and I am not sure what they are. I know that the idea of searching for my lost spellbook just soured after you heard of the prospect of danger, so here are a few tokens to sweeten it once more." He hands each of you a large, gleaming white pearl. "These are worth 100 gp each, but that is nothing, a paltry sum. I guarantee that if you should return with my great-uncle's spellbook, I will pay you ten times that amount. In addition, you may keep any weapons that you find there, if it so pleases you. My great-uncle, as I said, was a magical bladesmith, and there's a good chance that his tower contains several weapons that may be of no small value. So, adventurers, do you agree to undertake this task?"

"The dragon?" Handragath begins to laugh. It's quite unsettling, to hear the sound of a teenager's laughter emanating from a man quite clearly in the twilight of life. "It is long gone, you need fear no dragon."
