This thread isnt about really bad fails. I have had this on my mind for a while and im asking everyone this and i decided to ask you guys too. So is failing at failing a win or is it worse than a fail? Most people i have talked to are half and half about it. ill try and be active (no promises) to see what you guys say. thanks if you decide to answer

Hard to say, I guess it just matters how you look at it, like adding two negatives to make a positive, or just sort of stacking fails on top of fails.

Your so bad, you fail trying to fail, and do something cool? I guess inwardly its a fail, but you could always act like you meant to do it, in which it might be a win. XD

Well, if we look at this from a mathematical point of view, failing at failing would be winning. By multiplying two negatives(failing), you would receive a positive(winning).

I think failing at failing is when someone tries to purposely mess-up at something but the fail at that and thus they do the job correctly.

I'd say it depends on the specific situation whether or not the end result can be called a win or a loss (loss, cos I'm trying to reduce the amount of "fail" to avoid confusion).

If someone tells you to do something and you try to sabotage your own work, but somehow don't manage to... It could be a loss for yourself but a win for the someone.

If you try to fail a test, but end up succeeding it, well, it's a win, but what it leads to could be a loss.

If you try to draw something really fail and horrible-looking but end up with a rather neat drawing, you failed your intentions, but hey, win. :P

*taps fingers*

Basically, whenever you try something and fails, you have failed. If you tried to fail and failed at doing that, it is still failure because you intended things to go differently.
Depending on why you tried to fail, the end result can be either positive or negative.

Failure isn't a negative numerical value, btw, it doesn't calculate like -2 * -2 would.

I believe succinctly, that it all comes down to intentions.

To intentions and results, in my opinion.

If Zoph hadn't destroyed this thread I would of gone on a very negative rant. Instead, I'll keep it quick.

As soon as you attempt to fail, you are failing. However things turn out, you still have some issues, I mean really -_-

That's probably a very common example, but often it would be people trying and saying "Oh I did this really crappy drawing" even though they put effort in and just don't like it/think it's bad, regardless of whether it actually is.

Hmm... Real life example time! So, I've done pretty bad lately in school. I'll use something from Drama as an example. So, I hand it in, know it's **** and reckon I'll fail. I passed (58% ). I didn't try to fail. Does that mean I fail in a sense?

Actually I nabbed that example from something I've done a few times... Tried to draw crap and failed so it actually looked alright (not good, but alright or ended up being humourous in a way that kinda negated the crappy way it was drawn).

Imagine you are on a morally questionable mission. You decide to be a better person and deliberately fail your objective. Failing for your boss in this case would be succeeding for you as a person. Failing to fail, aka succeeding in your objective, would be a moral defeat to yourself but a victory for your boss.

Just saying there can be reasons to want to fail.

You failed to predict accurately how you'd do. :P

Deliberately trying to draw poorly or drawing quickly without care and concern, a rough sketch or something?

Deliberately. It ended up looking like a troll with a funny face, which was considerably less awful than I was trying for. > >

*glances towards the AG office* Hmm, yup...

What if you try to fail, and succeed? Then what have you done? Just try to fail, not try to fail while doing something, and no silly stories about trying to fail tests and anything. Just try to fail, and succeed in doing so.

I mean, if you try to fail, and do it, then you have succeeded, and not failed in the first place, which means you failed to fail, but when you do that, you have failed, and thus succeeded in failing, meaning you failed to fail... Yeah, you get the point.

It's just a fail. The fact that you failed at it means you tried to fail. So if you had succeeded at failing that would be a win. But you tried and failed meaning you only failed at it same as any other fail.
