Ok... i know this would never happen, but what if each state became its own country? who would rise to the occasion? who would become the new superpower? and what state would become the new capitol of the New United State?
Well, if there was actual fighting between them, California would probably take the west pretty quickly. New York would immediately overpower Maine down to Florida, While Texas would move up to the Dakotas. There would be a huge desert separating California and Texas, so Texas and New York would probably duke it out, with the winner being able to defeat California. From there, the winner would have little trouble overrunning Alaska and Hawaii, although it would take some considerable time, due to distance and Alaska's size.
How would Quebec get involved? Quebec is Canadian!
Remember, American's are notoriously bad at geography.
First off all the states wouldn't separate individually, that simply makes no sense. If this would happen the reason would most likely be the popularization of the tea party and other far right movements meaning the states would basically separate based upon their political leaning. I doubt that the lines would be much different then they were in the American Civil War.
Also, could you please refrain from attacking every American. samy? I am actually very educated.
Tell me how many provinces are in Canada and name three of them.
I can't do it because it's simply something I don't learn in school and haven't been overtly interested in at this point in time. Besides if America was stupid enough to enter into a second Civil War it would deserve to be insulted.

Sadly anyone could google the Canadian provinces. But I have watched Rick Mercer's Talking to Americans and, the fact that he was able to convince several people that Canada was a landlocked country simply astounded me.
Question: Who will control the missle silos that are outside the US?
The countries the silo's are in would probably assume control of them. US CentCom would most likely be too busy with the fighting to do much overseas. Some U.S. territory's might try to break off as well(American Samoa, Philippians etc.)
actually orson scott card created an extremely interesting near future sci fi book that can answer your questions, its a really good book and I advice you to read it, its called Empire, look it up.
Alaska would be quickly annexed by Russia or Canada, under the pretense of keeping the peace.
Texas' large population would result in it swarming over the lesser populated mid-west.
California would sweep up the west coast, and would only be impeded by the Rocky Mountains.
Florida would easily take the south east, and dominate anything coming in or out of the Gulf Coast.
New York would take up the New England area, and stop at the great lakes.
Now, California would probaly bypass the Rockies and try to flank the Texans trough Montana or Arizona-New Mexico. Texas would also be besieged by New England through the Great Lakes. Texas would be land locked, as Floridas' large amount of boats would create a Gulf-Blocade. Texas also gained too much land to quickly, and is over extended. So It would likely shrink to the south, and its lands would be counquered.
So Texas Falls.
California would likly try to push Florida and New England out, so that it would gain all the way to the Appalcaions. At teh same time, New England and Florida would be fighting over Maryland and Washington DC. And it would pretty much be an impasse: Florida controlls the coast, California controls teh bread basket, and New England controls the Industry. Texas simply got screwed.
No one has yet to explain why the map has Quebec overrunning the entire eastern CANADIAN coast. How the hell would an AMERICAN civil war make Quebec decide to randomly and focefully seperate from Canada?

quebec, after the civil war started, seceded from Canada. Canada, distraught, changed its name to Candada to hide its shame
