For all those who care (and for the viewing pleasure of those who don't) there's a very good chance that Google is going to officially announce a stable build of Chrome OS.
Chrome OS (operating system) you say? But isn't Chrome an internet browser? You're correct my good sir! But Google has decided to open up a new world of possibilities in creating a computer operating system based entirely around the internet. But how will I write documents, keep a calender, use any files?!?! Ahh but there's an answer my friends, with the launch of Chrome OS a Chrome app store will open an app store allowing users to download these needed programs to their computer/internet; a video on the matter. Oh yeah, and almost all your info is on the cloud. The beginning of the end for the hard drive? Well probably not, but still the possibility is an exciting one, that all your information could be accessed as if it were on your computer, without taking up any memory on your computer.
For now the OS will be confined to being used on netbooks but there are numerous possibilities in computing that are going to opened up by this technology.
Yes google it's pure genius under this aspect. I heard that all washington DC offices have thrown old Microsoft office in the rubbish and have adopted google docs, which is completely on the cloud and it's free.

That's the most safe thing I've heard all day. I'm really scared now.

Read the links :P
Google docs is nearly completely safe as most Google products. Besides I'm sure some of those cables wikileaks released were written on an Office product.
Problem is you need to be constantly connected to the Internet so instead of money being stole your Internet speed is.
written on an Office product.
Could be open office which itself is almost the same is office but free and open source.
It's nice but it is practically useless for me. I got my closed source Windows that has many useful programs and then I got Ubuntu which is totally open source and the most powerful OS in the world when you know how to use the console. With Wine I can also run a bunch of windows programs.
Lol I'm going off topic but do you figure what would happens if someone bombs the google servers? Millions of people would lose their Gmails! No seriously I don't think so google has lots of servers in all the world. Did you know google wants to build floating server structures in the ocean alimentated by waves? People would do ANYTHING to avoid taxes... Lol

Not true.
Now, what if you have no connectivity, like on a plane. Continue to work in Google Docs, even offline, keep working on it. Next time has connectivity, everything will sync.
How about fun? Go to the web store, whole set of apps will work offline. Heâs now playing a game offline. Read news, bringing up the NYT app.
Weâve made it possible for you to use this device even if you donât have connectivity. But realize in todayâs web, really need to be connected.

It's created for users who use their computer for the internet 90% of the time, luckily for them this is quickly becoming a huge share of the market. I understand it's going to be useless for some people but for others, like myself, who spend nearly all their time on the internet or using Office software this is huge.
A new OS in the competition? Well this will be interesting.
I would like to try it when it officially releases in 2011, but since I just got a new laptop and I don't want to buy a Google netbook I guess I'll have to wait.
