I'd advise you to look at a third option - LED TV's. They have the energy efficiency and good longevity of LCD TV's and the better colours/darker blacks that you find with Plasmas.
You might want to add in that Plasma has to be transported specially, and a lot of moving companies will not touch them without one of the special (expensive) cases. This was the problem with my last one, but I have since moved on to an upgrade from a tv, the projector.
Well, depends on your room type as well. If you enjoy watching movies i nthe dark, the plasma is right for you, HOwever, if your room is brightly light, go with the LCD
