I just recently came across a new band, Van Canto. The only person who actually plays an instrument is the drummer. The rest is all done with their voices... if they have to synthesize a guitar solo then its done w/ one of their voices and an amp... at first i was like "....ur kidding right?"... but... then... well i'll let the music do all the talking.

LOST FOREVER
Wishmaster (Nightwish Cover)

i'm interested in your opinions.... btw its metal music but almost all organic o_O... wrap ur mind around that... hopefully it won't rupture

Do you like this band? Do you like the idea of what they're doing? or is it just meh?

I like it! I'm glad that a capella is going metal! I've seen other stuff floating around the internet that is similiar, like Voca People, but I think I'm even more impressed by these guys and their ability to vocalize some very intense guitar sounds.

I love it more than the Voca People. I never that arcapella could sound like that. 1000000/10

I like this band, I am going to try and contact them so I can use the Lost Forever song for my new flash game, Earthbound (or something like that). A story about a character (you) who must defeat a alien plot to destroy the sun. Coming out in April-May 2011!! If you have any better title ideas leave a comment on my profile!! =)

There is no way they made the guitar sound with their mouth.

I switched to another tab at 3:25 in lost forever. Then I heard the guitar bit and if they made that with their mouth that is... epic.

The drum is good though. I don't think they could do it without drums.

Now if I didn't know that they had no instruments (apart from drum) personally I think their songs are really good and it isn't "Wow. That was impossible. Let's give them credit"

That was surprisingly un-horrible.

I didn't really like the music itself, but the idea of having just a bunch of singers and a drum set is fantastic and they did a great job at pulling it off. I find it really impressive.

they're not making the noises w/o help. The mic is going to an engel amp or something like that.... and it synthesizes a guitar'esque sound. Its not like he can just go into a guitar solo w/ his mouth at any given moment....

their songs:
speed of light
mission

are also really good in my opinion... for those of u interested

They should scrap the drummer and hire a beatboxer DD:

Also, this idea reminds me of that one Bjork album where she did the same thing. A cappella music can be loads of fun if it's well-produced/sung~

i read somewhere that they tried having beat boxers.... apparently they would all come close to passing out mid song.

I've tried finding biographical info on the members, especially inga scharf :3, but as of yet I have had no luck with such ventures... i've only found that they were in other bands that didn't work and then one of them decided to do this style music for fun and then it evolved into the great band that it is now....so if anyone else finds anything out about them i would greatly appreciate having that info relayed to hear....

this is so silly. its not metal, but theyre trying.

at least its better than most a capella.

they need to put a beatboxer in there for the drums, then id be impressed. and im sure there are some who could do it, just because its a double bass doesnt mean its impossible. Ive seen Biz Markie and Doug E Fresh do some pretty insane stuff for 3-4 minutes straight.

then how would they play concerts? they would have to cycle out guys for each song.... i don't think splitting the money 30 ways would work

This really surprised me. I never thought a capella would ever go metal. Although, I prefer driving beats, guitars with heavy distortions, and less singers. It actually did sound very good though. The noises they made shocked me. I'll have to listen to more of their songs before I make a full opinion.

I gotta admit I think this is difficult for me to take seriously, because once you get into listening to it and watching the video you realize that there are a bunch of people making angry faces and saying "dubbly dum" and "reedly deedly reedly deedly tum tum tum" over and over again DX

lol just scroll down and read comments or go to one of the vids w/ an album cover as the vid.... personally... i'm too absorbed with Inga Scharf's siren like voice and appearence to look for more than an instant at the rest of the band members

from what i've seen they sign all of their posts or interviews (none w/ inga :'-( )w/ Rakataka

I think it has to take some courage and a lot of confidence to get up and do what they do live... especially since they've played at "Wacken".
