I would like to recommend a new text based online game which just came out called Lord Empires. The game is based in the middle ages and if i was to compare it to more known games i would say it is an interesting mesh between Sim City and Civilization.
It is a highly social orientated game, with a big focus on teamwork and collaboration. You will need to use skill and diplomacy to get ahead by negotiating trade agreements, connect roads, participate in the country elections or even apply to become the next Pope!
Obviously war is a key part of the game, with several division types to choose from, you can group up with your buddies to form your own clans to fight back rogues or declare war on your enemies.
The game is orientated towards long term development played over months. Simply come online, make a few decisions, tweak your city and raid your favorite target then log off, you will not need to spend more than 4-5 minutes per day on this.
