What are your top 10 metal bands? Mine would have to be: Children of Bodom Wintersun Kalmah AC/DC Led Zeppelin Ensiferum Nightwish Dimmu Borgir Slayer Bullet for My Valentine
Most influential? 1: Black sabbath 2-5: Big 4 of Thrash metal 6: Death 7: Bathory 8: Pantera 9: Korn (having to include nu-metal as metal and Korn on this list makes me want to kill myself)
My favorite metal bands? totally different.
1: Cynic 2: Diablo Swing Orchestra 3: Mirrorthrone 4: Unexpect 5: Kamelot 6: Agalloch 7: Alcest 8: Atheist 9: Pain of Salvation (they can be metal) 10: Opeth Honorable Mentions: Orphaned Land (ORwarriOR, MABOOL), Shadow Gallery, Ayreon, Exist (the obsc00r jazz metal ones), Exivious, Gordian Knot
well, these are interesting lists. i very much encourage pauler94 to go to pandora (if he lives in the US) and find some other bands, cuz those are all popular bands and there are much better ones (btw, if metallica is ur fav, what about Load, Reload, and St. Anger. not trying to kill Metallica but they arent that great to me. just saying)
1) Iron Maiden (UP THE IRONS THEN, NOW, AND FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 2) Megadeth 3) Judas Priest 4) Gamma Ray (might become first soon) 5) HammerFall (5th keeps changing, i dont expect this so stay the same) 6) Anthrax 7) Iron Savior 8) Sonata Arcica 9) Helloween 10) Avenged Sevenfold (i find it interesting im the only one with a newer Thrash metal band on thier list) 11) Overkill 12) Slayer 13) Alter Bridge (their Metal, trust me) 14) Heavenly 15) Disciple 16) Iron Fire 17) Dragonforce 18) Metallica 19) Nightwish 20) Exodus
Great list alt, mainly for Agalloch, PoS and Opeth... fantastic stuff.
I'll post a really vague one, as my tastes constantly change. Ignore the order.
1.- Dream Theater 2.- Opeth 3.- Iron Maiden 4.- Pain of Salvation 5.- Tool <-- Arguable. I do consider them metal. 6.- In Flames 7.- Atheist 8.- Agalloch 9.- Anathema 10.- Metallica, for influence. I don't like the music all that much.
Honorable Mentions? Slayer, Black Sabbath and Haken (not particularly metal, but meh.)
10) Avenged Sevenfold (i find it interesting im the only one with a newer Thrash metal band on thier list)
Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Metallica should be on your list if you're a metal fan.
It depends on the type of metal you like . . . there's a ton of metal out there, and there's a lot that's much more interesting than the Big 4 of thrash metal and the really popular old heavy metal bands. Iron Maiden is awesome and all, but there's a lot of newer, more interesting, more original stuff out there these days.
honestly i think iron maiden is HIGHLY over rated. i mean there good but i mean come on. its just cheasy power metal.
Okay Delo, you're usually really knowledgeable, but I don't think you have the right definition for power metal here. >_> Iron Maiden is a classic heavy metal band from the new wave of British heavy metal, not a power metal band. Power metal is more like Kamelot, Blind Guardian, Dark Moor, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Epica, Nightwish, etc.
I mean, nothing wrong with Iron Maiden, but I think they've been outclassed by the newer stuff that's out there now. Same thing with the Big 4 of thrash metal. They were hugely innovative in their time and remain very important, but they've been outclassed by newer, more experimental, more musical, more powerful metal through the years.
. . . anyway, now that I'm not dead anymore, I think that everyone who likes Dream Theater needs to get the Shadow Gallery album Room V. They're a prog-rock/metal band and Room V is one of the finest pieces of prog-metal ever. Really great . . . they've made my newer top 10 for metal bands because of it.
