So lately I've been visiting the US, or specifically, the state of California. I've been through or past most of the cities along the coast or near it, as well as the Grand Canyon in Arizona. As my trip draws to a close, I'm reflecting on the various brief pictures of CA that I've gathered.

So I thought I'd start a thread in which people can briefly describe where they've travelled to. Ideally you'd mention the country/state/county/city/neighborhood etc. you've been to and sum it up neatly.

For example:

Los Angeles- sprawling, dirty, and the traffic is nuts. Also the further away you get from the city itself (particularly USC, thanks to the white-flight phenomenon), the nicer the neighborhoods are e.g. Pasadena, Anaheim, Irvine (where the AG office is located). Speaking of which, Venice beach is a total hippie joint and kook haunt. It'd be hard to find a place with more... character... unless you go to:
San Francisco- a land of culture and proactive homeless unions. Also the traffic is even more nuts. And in both these places I couldn't drive on a single freeway without being overwhelmed by pot fumes. Is blazing up CA's favourite pasttime or something?
San Diego- LA's little, and somewhat prettier sister. Home to many a captive animal including a certain infamous Shamu. BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF DREAMS. lol. The orca soft toys are cute though.
The Grand Canyon- is grand. Stand on an overhang that juts over a yawning thousand foot drop. You'll see what I mean.

Actually San Francisco is like a combination of Sydney and Melbourne, except even more cultured and swanky and generally awesome (not to mention gay-friendly lol). Where I live right now isn't dissimilar to Haight-Ashbury or Mission District, and I'd stand to benefit a lot creative-wise from a location like that.

Once I get back, I'm going to have to get used to matchbox-sized cars and driving on the left side of the road again.
