I got a laptop for Christmas (whoo!), and I have wireless, so I can get connected to the internet. Infact, I'm on it right now. The problem is that the network just randomly decides to drop me from it. And I have to get connected back to the network. The problem isn't with the motem, as 2 laptops and a PC also use the network and stay connected just fine. Help?

Mmm I don't think I can help you but I wanted to show my solidarity because I use a wireless connection with my iPod and it keeps losing the connection. Luckily there's an option that automatically connects you to a known network, but it isn't fun anyway.

Well, I suggest getting on a forum that has to do with your wireless router. I'm not sure the folks of the Tavern can help you much.

Try matching the wireless properties to the exact properties of the router, or just adjust the settings of your laptop to work faster because the network may drop you because the laptop is going too slow so the connection times out.

My laptop is acting really stupid ever since I restarted it yesterday to the factory default. It was necessary to do though. I had spyware and couldn't get rid of it. It rendered all my documents useless as well.

But now my internet connection is crappy. I might need to have my cousin fix this for me. Before my internet was excellent and fast. It never dropped me. But now it does every couple minutes anytime I click something.

It must be something in the settings. Or this norton antivirus I have to use since my computer restarted.

It could be. I'm not really good with computers.

But when I had trend micro antivirus my computer was fast. And it never disconnected me.

But with this Norton I get disconnected every 10-20 or so. It's getting really annoying.

If you want a good free antivirus though I would try McAfee. I plan on changing to that soon.

With Norton though I've read that it's a resource hog and it slows down your computer.

Hmmm....Norton in my opinion is bad news.
Well, first of all I would say try restarting your router (You have one if you are using it wirelessly most likely)
Secondly, is your router wireless N or G and what is your networking card in your Laptop. Very old routers may not always work properly with newer computers running newer OS software.
I'm good with computers and such but random disconnections is one of the hardest issues to troubleshoot.

Oh and sorry for the double post but on the topic of Norton, I can say that in my opinion it is the worst software available. It is highly intrusive and seems to dominate your computer whether you want it to or not.
It is very possible that Norton is causing this. And in that instance I would recommend replacement with either Avira, Avast, or AVG free. Along with Malwarebytes anti-malware for added protection
