What do you think of him? When I first heard of him, I thought he was just another rapper but he is quite different. He sounds a lot like the Gorillaz. They rap, but they have psychedelia involved in much of it.
He seems to be one of the pioneers in a genre I like to call psychedelic rap, which have influence of rap but including changes of beats and synthesizers.
One thing I've noticed from other artists is that they have a bunch of songs on the radio that have the same beat and doesn't correspond to the singers voice at all. It is so subtle that you can barely hear the beat at all, and since the singer's voice is guiding the sound, it really is too artificial. I mean, since the voice already has been edited and cleaned out, it just seems repetitive and too stale.
I prefer a more raw sound, in the sense that it has a fresh sound in it. It has to have smooth transitions, has to correspond to the song, or just a chorus that corresponds to the beat, and some thought behind it.
Kid Cudi has all of that, even though he does have sing-speak songs, the chorus makes up for it. Not conventional rap, if it is at all, but it is pretty good. It's more of R & B. Anyway, I like, what do you think of it?
