Read the bleeding PH already, that's all that a player needs to know. The rest of us know other stuff because we've probably DM'd at some time, so that was cause to read the DMG and MM.
I've read through roughly half of the 3.5 one when i had access to one, mainly the parts i was interested in (all the classes, Most of the races particularly Elves, and lots of other stuff i don't recall).
Well my bad, let me call up my now-graduated friend, who i'd have to make plenty of calls and answer many strange questions just to get in touch with, then figure out how to get there, just so I can get that PH again Desert.
