Dragon, just what is your email? Is there somewhere you can privately tell me, if that's the issue?

Damascus is "talking" to the citizens.
"I'm afraid I'm going to have to sequester you all for the next few hours!" he calls. "I apologize for the inconvenience, but I need to interview you about the storms, so I can find a solution to this mess."

*Sound of dice rolling* You do, in fact, find a small goat trail, but it looks like it winds quite a ways, and cuts through some mountains, but odds are this will get you back to civilization, so what do you want to do?

DBS, as you said, it disappeared after it died, and there are no other paths. *sound of dice rolling* Assuming you go for it, (not much other choice...) You make your way down the path when you notice something in the distance. It looks like a figure attempting to climb down a near-by mountain, and it looks like Popo! (might I add, the chance was astronomical, and I rolled 02 on d%) You get closer, and manage to meet up with him near where the path winds by.

Townsfolk:
"And just who are you to demand such a thing"
Mayor:
"They are heroes who answered our cry for help, and if you must stay, they have full authority here, and there is nothing I can do."
Dwarf:
"Aye, I'd have to agree with the mayor there, but I don't really care one way or the other, I got my home UNDERGROUND, and UNDERGROUND is where I'm staying!"
Lorethel:
"Hey, you said I was free to go, you self-righteous, law-abidding, *****, *******, ****, **********, who SMELLS LIKE BASIL!!! And I only save those insults for smelly Dwarves, and as far as I'm concerned, THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE!!!"
Dwarf:
"You got something to say about Dwarves, ELF?!"
Lorethel:
"Yeah, I'm saying you, and ALL YOUR KIND are drunk, smelly, warmongering, *****, *******, ****, **********!!!"
Dwarf:
"I'm sure an ax in your skull would help change your mind, and if you don't want one put there, YOU'D BETTER WATCH WHAT COMES OUT OF YOUR MOUTH, you tree-hugging, nature-loving, peace-keeping, *****! I don't need to use foul language to insult you, since you do a fine job doing that yourself, you little worm!"
Lorethel:
"HOW WOULD YOU LIKE A LIGHTNING BOLT UP YOUR HAIRY ***!"
Dwarf:
"BRING IT ON, ELF!!!"
Mayor:
"Oh, dear, this could get rather ugly!"
Merchant:
"Fellas, fellas, why all this petty squabbling, when we have a common enemy? We all know that none of us are to blame for these strange occurrences, but I know what just may be the cause of all this... YOU NOT RESPECTING THE HIGHER AUTHORITY OF THE LAND!"
*Everyone looks at the merchant with a rather nervous loo on their face*
Head Priest:
"He may be right, I mean, when was the last time we payed our tribute to HER?"
Merchant:
"Then you know why you have been punished, and what you must now do..."
Mayor:
"But the others destroyed her home years ago, why now would she chose to invoke her wrath on us?"
Merchant:
"That, I do not know, but I can tell you this, if you don't pay her tribute soon, this wanton destruction will spread across the land, and the blood of COUNTLESS INNOCENTS will be on YOUR HANDS!"
Mayor:
"How could you possibly know all this?"
Merchant:
"Because, you foolish humans, I am her loyal servant, sent to spread the message of her righteous fury to those who betray her, all those years ago. The others foolishly refused to listen to me, and you have seen what has become of them, as a result!"
Mayor: *stuttering*
"b-b-b-but, then why, why did we receive no warning of this?"
Merchant:
"YOU KNOW FULL WELL WHOSE IDEA IT WAS TO TRY AND KILL THE MASTER!!! And now, you will all pay with your lives, no matter where you go, MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!"
*With that, he disappears into thin air*

What will you do now?

O...K...
Mayor:
"I'm afraid not... what he was talking about was something that we thought was taken care of many a year ago, A storm giant. About 50 years ago, There lived a Storm giant, who lived just offshore from here on a little island fortress. She was quite mean and ill-tempered, and ruled over our land with an iron fist, and demanding tribute of ridiculous proportions. The tribute became more and more impossible to meet, and one day we were unable to meet it, and she turned one of the nearby towns into a huge lake as punishment. There were no survivors, so our ancestors devised a plan, and set her home ablaze through magical means unknown to any of us. We assumed she had perished in the flames, we were wrong. Now, she was no ordinary Storm giant, her command of the elements is strong, and she could and would sink ships at a whim if it suited her fancy. I see now this is not going to be an easy quest, but we need you heroes to kill that Storm Giant before she destroys us and all of the towns along the Sword Coast. I'm afraid it was my father, rest his soul, who conjured the magical flame that was supposed to kill the giant, and it appears she is holding me personally responsible for what he did. I fear for my life, what evils she may have in store for me, 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned', especially when it's a 20 ft one with a command of the storms..."

"If the creature herself didn't die in the magical flames," Demetrius reasons, "why would she wait fifty years to come after you again? Wouldn't she have done so immediately, had she survived?"

I thought it was Damascus...

Mayor:
"Maybe she was just biding her time, waiting for an opportune moment, or maybe she didn't escape completely intact. Who knows what her reason could be? Not even that merchant knew, and who knows how long he's been in her service. he'd been living here a good 6 years, how did he fall in with her? This keeps getting worse and worse..."
