You do that, and come across a wooden reinforced door at the bottom of the stairs. It doesn't seem to be locked, and you hear voices inside; their number and distance, you failed to hear.

If he still has his manacles(I don't know why they would take them from him) Demetrius cuffs the guy's hands to the grate. So put the manacles on both of the guy's hands, and thread the chain in between them through the grate, if you can picture that. >.>
