Okay, so my little brother apparently walks in his sleep (Posted here)
I guess I'll just start a sleep walk thread. Feel free to talk about:
.Your experiences with sleepwalking
.Facts about it
.Any stories you find (hopefully kind of funny) about it
.Why people sleepwalk
.Etc.

In my Psych class, they taught us that in sleep walking, a person can only do a few very simple things. Get up, walk, go up stairs, open a door, sit down, get back up, go to bed.

They forgot peeing. Also I know that the interweb isn't always 100% accurate, but there's WAY too much info out there on legitimate medical websites with research and info that discuss sleepwalking with aggression, sleep sex, and sleep eating disorders. So I think your professor was mistaken.

*clears throat*

I'm pretty sure it is okay to wake a sleep walker. I just meant that the reason the idea that you shouldn't is perpetuated is because it supposedly causes night terrors. Sorry for my lack of clarity.

Was that his typical place of residence? Often, sleep walkers will act on the assumption that they are in their homes, leading to such situations.

He was in that house for the first 10 years of his life, so I don't know where he thought he was. I actually asked her today about it since this thread brought back memories... She said that he never did anything that severe again, he'd just occasionally pee in the garbage can instead of the toilet or walk into their bedroom and leave again.

ok i once had a sleepwalking experiance once i think. It was like 3 o clock in the morning or so, i checked the clock afterwards. but anyways i remember having a weird dream i got out of my top bunk, walked into the kitchen and sat back down, and after a while i woke up and i was laying in the kitchen floor. so idk if that was sleepwalking, but i sure didnt mean to do it, im scared of demons snatching me, so i never get off my top bunk :3 anyways, thought i'd let you know

All that which you listed are in of themselves simple things. An example of it not being simple is where you do ALL of those together, cover it up, wash up, head back to bed, etc.

Haha, yeah... There have been a few cases where the criminal's defense was that they were sleepwalking, yet they had a motive to kill, they covered it up, etc. Ninja please, the court system is generous, but not stupid.

i think the reason you shouldnt wake a sleepwalker is simple (it is my theory though so dont take it too seriously). you see, usually people dont know they are dreaming and they believe that their dream is their actuall life. thing is, this moment can be a dream too. so lets say a friend of yours would just come to you and say that this is all a dream and you have to wake up and that all of this isnt real. you will be very angry and if you will believe him you will be very scared too. this is exactly how a sleepawalker would feel if youd tell him he has to wake up. its the feeling of the whole reality you thought is true isnt and that is a scary thought. (again this is just my theory so im not saying this is true)
