just state how u were so fortunate to discover the amasingness that is Power Metal and what ur fav power metal bands are.

my story goes back to how i discovered Iron Maiden (trust me, its relivent)

i had a friend that had a Maiden Shirt on, but i misread it as "Iron Man". he then corrected me shoing that it said "Iron Maiden" and that it was a band. i felt that i owed it to him that i look up that band. they then beke my favorite band all time =D (UP THE IRONS!). after a few years i made a Pandora account (thats an internet radio cite but its United States only). one day while i was listening, this one song came up and i thought that it was truely amazing. the song was New World Order by a band i didnt know at the time, Gamma Ray. later, this other song came up that was very simmilar to New Wolrd Order, it was call Renagade by HammerFall. i looked up Gamma Ray and HammerFall and learned that they are Power Metal. they became my fourth and seventh favorite bandes (Gamma Ray fourth and HammerFall seventh). they i found Armor games and Exit Path. i quickly discovered Ghost Clan and wanted to get in it. after i was eligable i joined up. they i met this guy, Sonatarvarios, who, as u may know, is a HUGE fan of Power Metal. he introduced me to Sonata Arctica, Stratovarios, Syphony X, and more recently, Heavenly (among others). i now know even more power metal bands, Helloween, Falconer, Iron Fire, Iron Savior, Edguy, Steel Attack, Wizard, and Nocturnal Rites. power metal is now my favorite genre all time, and holds the places, third, fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, eleventh, twelth, and fourteenth out of my top 15 bands all time.

now, tell us your story...

I prefer old school USPM. It has more balls, imo.

How I found out about Power Metal is roughly how I found out about Metal at all. I was never really tempted to give it a try before; it just didn't seem my kind of music, and all of my friends would have said so if asked, I'm sure. I actually owe what followed to my brother; he had already started listening to some groups, mostly Power Metal. Once, I was browsing a track list where some of his songs were present, and saw this particular title that intrigued me: I double clicked and was immediately fascinated while hearing Sonata Arctica's Black Sheep's intro. From the first seconds on I was captivated; I had not much left for heavy genres but SA's fast melodic, powerful songs were indeed very appealing. That was the birth of my metal addiction; it started with a few songs of Sonata Arctica, then all songs of the group; slowly I tried other groups, like Stratovarius, Helloween... it took me a long time until I tried out new genres, but it kinda started to spread exponentially.. I still strongly prefer melodic over heavy metal though. Folk Metal is different altogether, I quite like Folk Metal, strangely.

At the time that I entered my college freshman year, I had never really listened to power metal. My roommate, at the time, was really big into video games (me too)... and he would generally play music while playing games (unless it was rock band or guitar hero... then he literally played music as part of the game). He introduced me to Stratovarius and their song Eagleheart this way... its one of the songs he would sometimes loop during a fast paced game just b/c it got the adrenaline going. Slowly, I began to seek out other Stratovarius singles and albums... then after a while I started looking at the Itunes recommendation bar for new stuff... I found bands like Kamelot, Symphony X, Pyramaze, and more...

One day the two of us were looking through the itunes recommendations and saw Sonata Arctica's live album "For the Sake of Revenge," and since its cover has a wolf on it and he likes wolves(I do aswell) he bought it... upon overhearing some of the songs off of the album he had just purchased I was ensnared by Sonata Arctica's glory and bought the album. As soon as I had the money I began purchasing the rest of the SA albums... it got to the point where I didn't even listen to the 30second itunes samples... I just bought them.... and then ended up buying the cd's for the albums Itunes didn't carry... since then I've sought out all kinds of music (mostly metal(especially power/symphonic metal))

you'd be surprised as to how connected a lot of these bands are... touring together and doing guest work for each other.

as seen on my page... i enjoy SA b/c at some point or other I have been in the situation where I can relate to almost each and every one of their songs at an emotional level.

I love having derp moments and not finishing thoughts >_>...

SA has a song for every thing... at least as far as I'm concerned

i dont particularly like power metal.... is not really good at all lol.

i mean its a "to each his own" kind of thing... it usually just takes some lyrics and/or some emotional instrumental work (instrumental songs can incite happiness/sadness/gloominess/anger/pure energy..etc)

I can relate to all kinds of music... maybe u just haven't found the right band yet.. or maybe power metal just isn't for you

I think she has several Operatic Power pieces out there so you got my vote... some of these guys are a little strict w/ their definitions so i don't know what they'll have to say.

songs like End of All Hope, Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean, and Astral Romance seem like they'd fit the bill really well. ...but they might be called symphonic or just operatic... has enough power for me tho
