Well, I've been purchasing a lot more music lately and we have some definite music fanatics on AG, so I decided to get a conversation going on the music I enjoy.

Right now, alternative rock to indie rock has been my thing. I'm going to post my playlist in just a moment. What I would like from you guys is suggestions! You can view what I already have and tell me if there is a band I'm missing out on.

Thank you guy!

Ooohoohooh, I'm a music freak and indie is my main thing. Lemme see here . . . .

You seem to like indie in general. So I'll give you a wide range of recommendations.

Sigur Ros - get Agaetis Byrjun and ( ). They're post-rock, and awesome. Very texture-based, sorta like Explosions in the Sky.

Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica, This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About. Two fantastic indie rock albums. Moon is more experimental and lush whereas Long Drive is more classic, almost Pavement-esque guitar-driven indie with lots of other touches.

Radiohead - Kid A, OK Computer, Amnesiac. Radiohead is CLASSIC, and I'm surprised you don't have anything from them there. OK Computer and Kid A are the two best, but Amnesiac is also great.

Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. Classic guitar-driven indie album, and if you like the Pixies I'm fairly sure you'll like it.

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation. Same as above. Sonic Youth were instrumental in the creation of alternative rock as a whole.

Beach House - Teen Dream. Beautiful smoky indie rock/dream pop. Teen Dream was one of the best albums of 2010.

Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest. Another amazing 2010 album, Deerhunter debuted fabulously. highly recommended.

All right, if you like the bands/albums listed, I can give you more.

Big props @ Explosions in the Sky :3

Do you want us to recommend the whole albums or just mutilated songs?

YESSSSSSSSS! You guys reminded me of some of the songs I wanted. This is exactly how I foresaw this going. Thank you guys!

thisisnot, it's funny you bring up Modest Mouse. They were my neighbors in college. I believe they still live in Oxford.

Parrot, I LOVE Instrumental rock. Check out Statistics. But I'd like for you to give me particular songs. I'll be honest, it's rare that I love an entire album.

Pablo, what genre is Sick Puppies? I've heard a bit about them.

Sick puppies are a lot of things. Songs like you're going down are more hard rock than alternative but songs like Odd One and All the Same are more alternative songs. The band is Australian but the Accent doesn't come up in songs.

I saw you had that one stone sour song on your list Asherlee. If you like a bit more heavier stuff and some death growls mixed in with mellow singing(The singer is also the singer for slipknot) you should check out songs like:

Sillyworld

Inhale

Say You'll Haunt Me

30/30-150

Hey I got a few recommendations here:

Devo:
-Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
-Duty Now for the Future
-Freedom of Choice
-Oh, No! It's Devo
-The Greatest Hits (these 2 if you don't want to bother with the others)
-The Gratest Misses
-Something for Everybody (from 2010)

Oingo Boingo:
-Only a Lad
-Nothing to Fear
-Good for Your Soul
-So-Lo
-Dead Man's Party
-Boi-ngo
-Skeletons in The Closet(greatest hits)

Blondie:
-Parallel Lines

The Cars:
-The Cars
-Candy O

The Police:
-Outlandos d'Amour
-Reggatta de Blanc
-Zenyattà Mondatta
-Ghost in the Machine
-Synchronicity
-The Police (greatest hits)

The B-52's:
-The B-52's
-Wild Planet
-Whammy!
-Bouncing off the Satellites
-Cosmic Thing
-Good Stuff
-Time Capsule (greatest hits)

Red Hot Chili Peppers:
-Californication
-What Hits!? (greatest hits, they don't have very good albums in my opinion)

Some of this is actually considered "New Wave", but it's basically the same thing as alternative, well to me anyway. Most people either only like a few songs by the above artists, or don't like them period. I could also recommend some good Punk, which for some reason is considered Alternative...

I recommend Greatest Hits if either A) you don't want to get to into this band, B) you don't want to waste a bunch of money, or C) You want to start with that then, if you like the bands, maybe move on to the actual albums and the lesser known hits that also sound good.

Good call on Cypress Hill...

You know, I really do like 30 Seconds to Mars. I love that epic type of alternative rock. The problem is they've gotten over-played in movies and commercials. It makes me SOOOO mad when a favorite song of mine ends up on a commercial. I don't know why, it just does. Prime example is Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition. On a dang Diet Coke commercial.

My stance on harder rock is varied. I really don't like it much. What I do enjoy are a few songs from various artists like 10 Years, Breaking Benjamin, Trapt, etc., that are more vocal than guitar.

...Just what is defined as Alternative nowadays? I see just in that last list alone a lot of non-alternative bands, like since when was Nickleback considered alternative, seriously? I don't even see any Punk, which is also considered alternative. To list some examples:

Agent Orange
Black Flag
Dead Kennedys
Flipper
The Ramones
