i have exams, and my geo exam starts in about 3 hours and 10 minutes, then i have a art exam and english exam still to come. im still trying to find a effective way of studying, can someone help me (Carlie please help me), someone who knows how to study (Carlie). for example, someone (Carlie) who is in university (Carlie), a good university (Carlie). thanks to anyone (Carlie) who posts study techniques (Carlie please help me out, and nqkoi, u seem smart too so feel free to post some stuff).
If by geo you mean geometry you will have a hard time since maths isnt something you could learn in 3 hours since its a real prick. If you mean geography then sit on a hard chair on a table turn of the TV and computer ask not to be disturbed by your parents and study. In addition you might want to write down a couple of keywords or calculations on some part of your body(exm.hand, leg) as a small version of a guide. If need to freshen your mind a cold glass of water seems to do the trick every time.
First of all, it is never good to study the day of an exam. The way studying works is it moves into your short term memory first, then with a night's sleep your brain will process it and store it. (That's about as simple as I could put it).
Rewriting things will help in automatically putting things into memory. Another is studying in an environment similar to what you will be taking the test in. So, if you are able to study in a classroom, do it.
thanks for the water tip nqkoi, ill be sure to have a bottle of watter with me, and i think ill get caught for cheating if i write stuff on my hand, and ill get a zero....
and thanks alot asherlee, i already knew about the memory thing, but the studying environment tip is really helpful, thanks guys
Oh noes! Do you have them all today? I just woke up, or I would have replied sooner.
I took a geography course my first year here, and something that was incredibly helpful, but fun at the same time, was a geography coloring book. I was quite shocked that a college professor would assign such a thing. But it was fun and worked well for the course...
For the future however, you need to start sooner than the day of to start studying. And ask before I go to bed, not when I am asleep Procrastination is definitely not the way to go. You will learn that with time. I have had exams that I had to start studying for weeks ahead of time for.
thanks for your help guys! and i have been studying for weeks, i was just hoping for some general tips, and thanks for giving them to me the exam was pretty easy, the brain thing worked, and as i was reading a question, its like a door opened up in my brain and the information came walking out! i really appreciate teh help guys, thanks!!
this may seem weird, but sometimes, procastinating pushes me to do my best! even though i dont do it all the time, when i procastinate for a small part of a project, i usually end up getting the best mark in the class, however i never ever procastinate for a test, and thanks Carlie, youre not too late cuz i have a art and english exam on monday and tuesday, and i could use all of these tips, thanks again! and i feel like i just cant thank you guys enough...
I know what you mean, that is what I used to do. It only works to a certain point though. Definitely not in college. Its good that you have been studying lots though! Are you a visual learner?
im both visual and... non-visual. it depends on what im learning, for example, for some things in math, i need visual help, like angles and stuff, but for algebra i have no problem and i dont need visual help.
Well I am a very visual learner, and I find that if I study through my notes a lot and make sure to draw good accompanying pictures, I study better. That way, when I am in an exam I can just close my eyes and look at that page in my head, because I have looked over it so many times and there is an accompanying picture to relate to it. This is especially effective for biology!
