Really, there is no such thing as a "greatest" anything. Everyone approaches guitar differently and has different styles and techniques. No two people do everything exactly the same so you really can't compare them.
As far as favorites, I could go on and on. Brent Hinds, John Baizley, Tosin Abasi, Derek Trucks, B.B. King... just to name a few.
I dont believe in "best of" discussions, there are so many guitarrists out there in a broad spectrum of styles and tastes; since i listen to metal almost from school i like more rock oriented composiotions.

depends on what criteria your using. heres my list
this list is based upon technical skill, song writing abillity, overall influence, inovativeness.
That's your OPINION. Its all subjective. Hendrix wasn't anything special. He was a very sloppy player. I, for one, don't see what all the hoorah is about him.

while it may be my oppinion yes. BUT it is a higly respectable oppinion.
you have to think of the time. for you it may not seem like he was that big of a deal, but think about what he did for people back then. what he did with the guitar had never been done with before. you may not like his playing, but the reason why hes on that list is because his song writing abillity, overall influence, and inovativeness cant even be put into words it was so great. and that is fact.
if you know who the rest are then they should speak for them selves because i dont think based on MY criteria there is any guitarist up there that shouldnt be
I'm not the Hendrix fan either. I'm ignorant on playing styles and the like though, so I'm not really suited to comment on this. These 3 are my favorites, though they possibly get close to greatest.
1.- John Pettrucci 2.- Joe Satriani 3.- David Gilmour
