i just have to say, whats with modern devs like microsoft sony and all the mainstreams? i mean i know they put alot of effort into their work, but from the little difference i see between games i dont think its worth the price tag! in the beggining of games it would take you weeks to make a little blip, and thats what you paid for the work, now days its $60 just for something you beat in an afternoon! In reality it also only costs no more than a few dollars to make the game case book and all, yet they charge you 60 when 15 could make them filthy rich! im just saying that it p's me off how things like onlive thats free and discounts games, or steam with the same, compared to mircrosoft or PS3 and they still try to rip you off. its just sad.
It's not the CD or the case you pay for, it's the work they've done. Most companies have a whole bunch of employees, and might use programs which cost a lot too, and the prices on the games are to cover those costs, and then make a profit. Because, you know, it's their job, so it's not like they do it because they want to break even.
Now, I can agree that it's not worth to pay that much for a game you beat in an afternoon, but I don't think the problem is with the price tag, but how games today in general are shorter, easier and have less replay value than most of the older games.
For games you beat in an afternoon? Have you head of a game called The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, or maybe Fallout New Vegas? What about the FPSs? They have multiplayer don't they? Black Ops is a great example. You beat the mind-boggling story mode on Veteran six times? Go play zombies! Go play multiplayer! Multiplayer has a bunch of options in that game! Sticks and Stones, Domination, etc.
I've played both Oblivion and New Vegas, and I love those games, but those games aren't enough to change my opinion about games in general. There are some amazing games out there, but that doesn't change the fact that most games are, in fact, short. Especially RPGs, which just happens to be the games I prefer to play.
I'm not a very big fan of shooters either, so telling me to go play another genre isn't really going to help.
I'm not saying games today suck, I'm just saying too many of them are too short and easy. They can still be fun, but it feels a bit disappointing when you buy a new game, finish it in a day or two, and then just put it on the shelf, with all the other games with no replay value.
ok i agree on the elder scrolls games and fallut, but you know what their both by bethesba one of the most fairly priced for the amoutn of game comopanies. and honestly you dont need that much skill or programs to make a game now, i havent gotten any training and have four working demos ongoing right now.
