I thought it was a good reductio ad absurdum, but it turns out to just be a belief of yours.
No, what I just said was that I would not let him die. I said that I'd rather same a fellow human than an ant. What I also said, however, was that everyone had the same right to live, even if it's logical that humans tend to take care of other humans.

Then why would you save the human rather than the ants? Wouldn't this be irrational, from your viewpoint?

As I've said many times before, so many times I might have to stab someone if I'm forced to repeat myself again, I think any creature should take care of others of the same species. Though I do believe every creature has the same right to live, I also think that, in addition to do what is needed to stay alive, they also have the right to do what they need to do to help others of the same species do the same thing.
So I do believe people should care more about other people than animals, but not because they think the lives of animals are worth any less.
I'm not trying to say you should kill someone who's about to kill a fly, I'm just trying to argue against comments like "Humans are dominant so we can do whatever we want to" or "Animals are supposed to serve humans".

Reductio ad absurdum for the species argument:
Say I had a dog, and this dog had a ton of microorganisms living in its body. But say I shoot the dog, and then the dog would have even more life (cause of bacteria). Of course, I think you might have said that consciousness denotes life...so this argument may not be quite as valid.
But is killing mosquitos or household pests immoral, because it harms another conscious being? Or are these pests actively invading our "right" to whatever...
