As the new zodiac sign, Ophiuchus, has been introduced, there has been a fair amount of controversy. Some people's signs have been changed! This is ridiculous, of course, since another star in existence shouldn't affect the star one was born under. I think that people whose birthdays were before the change should stay, and people born after the change should be the only ones with a different charts. What do you think?

Well, to be honest, you would be born into the "new" star sign when you were born. No one just realized it.
The matter of the zodical sign you have, is which star image the sun was in, when you were born. Considering these changes happens very, very slowly, it is not something for "just the people after the change", but for all people alive.
But then again, unless you are actually having your horoscope written personally each and every day by someone who actually knows this... "metascience", you should not care at all.

But... But... I don't want to be a Libra... I don't even know what a Libra is...

One of my old friends is a Libra. Usually you can get the general info of a sign by thinking of the stereotype for what the sign is, in your case, a weight/a set of scales.
The usual humour about that would be that... well, you change opinions a lot, and does not want to be by yourself on one scale/you follow other people's opinions.

And I want to stay a Libra (=a pair of scales )

Lol, but anyway Cenere said it right, first it's metascience and second these constellations are only constellations because we see them as such, look from another angle and you'll see completely different ones. It's all just relative *grin*

True, but some of these changes are ridiculous! For example, Aries changes to Pisces! How can you go from being a fire spirit to a water one?
I just think that the Zodiac is nonsense anyway, even if we just didn't realize it. It's all a legend anyway. If you're going to change it, do it right. Don't make us people who are used to our signs change them, even if technically they're not really correct.

Go take up the Chinese zodiac instead. It doesn't change like that *shrug*.
Personally, I don't mind. All my zodiac signs are that of Earth, which does make it a little boring over time.
And don't take it up. I am not sure if Astrologists actually acknowledge the "new sign" as part of the zodiac. To be honest, it could just as well just be justified with "well, the sun(or other planets) are in the space which we are now calling the Libra".

I would've liked to stay a Virgo but apparently now I'm a leo?? How does that happen??
~~~~~~
So here my thought on all this. Wouldn't we stay the same because this change was something new? Wouldn't only those born after the change be affected by it? That's what should really happen.
Because even if you don't believe in all of the Zodiac Sign mythological thign it's still fun to talk about and feel like you might know someone jsut from their sign. I know many people who would disapprove of this.
Starting with me.
Yeah, I used to be a Scorpio too. I say we gather a bunch of other ex-Scorpios and nuke the stars! That'll show them.
i just read about it... i think you are right silver. if you dont believe in those things then you wouldnt care but if you do then i think your opinion is the best solution. i will give my example: i was born in 21 june. which makes things always confusing because thats when the sign changes from gemini to cancer. i decided i will choose the sign that is the most compatible with my personality. the thing i found out is that i am almost the perfect balance between those too (which also makes perfectly unblanaced to other personality traits). anyway according to the new signs i was born on the day where it changes from taurus to gemini. and i have no taurus traits in my personality. the thing im trying to say is that if you are a believer then you should know that your personality is affected by the time you were born so doesnt matter if all the starts explodes (i gave a really extreme example here lol) your personality and traits will stay the same. i wont change from the emotional traits i have as a cancer to the energetic personality that a tauros has. hmmm... i really hope i could explain myself on a good way...
hmmm... sorry for double posting but adding a new sign wouldnt ruin the balance between the elements? i mean one element will have 4 signs instead of 3. and that is really messed up considering the whole zodiac thing is based on the balance between the elements
Precisely. I've always looked at the signs as just... something about you. Nothing really serious, it just is. I have a cute little star shaped pillow with a scorpion on it. What can I do with it I'm a stupid Libra? Squat.
I don't even like this new sign. He just shouldn't be considered a Zodiac. He's really late.
I changed from an Aquarius to a Capricorn, that's interesting.
Anyway, I don't place a lot of stock in the whole "astrology" thing, I think it's all a big fraud, but sometimes it's fun just to see what "my sign" is like.
True! Which is why technicalities like 'well it was a sign all along' frankly should not count. Your sign is your sign, period. :/
