I think the Les Paul has a better sound, is more recognized, and is more comfertable. On the other hand, the Special GT 2 is better for effects.

And over both of those, ide go for a Fender Stratocaster American Deluxe.

Just go to a music shop and try every guitar within that price range.

Depending on your amp, you may wanna look into getting a new amp before a new guitar. Most people would rather play a mediocre guitar through a nice sounding amp than play an awesome guitar through an amp that sounds bad. Remember, the amp makes up the majority of your tone and a good amp can still sound good with a bad guitar but a bad amp will sound bad no matter what you use with it.

If you plan on preforming I'd get which ever feels lighter and more comfortable if your just playing at home I'd get the first one and a good pedal.
