My message to you guy's is a one I often get scolded for preaching. I want people to realize there is a world beyond hip hop, and that the power chords in their heavy metal had to come from somewhere.
I'm not putting down new music. Listen to everything, it helps the soul. But I just want people to take the time to discover the roots of rock music. Not a rock fan? Like I said, just give it a try.
Basiclly, go out of your comfort zone to listen to some music over twenty years old, preferably older (fiftie's, sixtie's) because I'm paying tribute to people like Elvis and Link Wray, and post something here about what you learned. Could be a band from a while back you just discovered, or a interesting story involving the birth of rock music as we know it. For example, electric guitars were invented when two guitar makers tryed to make an acoustic guitar with a microphone on it. There, something interesting like that.
I'm not too serious about this, I probably am not going to reply, but I want people to educate themselves musically, so give this a chance.
I really don't see why everyone associates Elvis with rock and roll. He was rockabilly which is more country than rock.
But most modern stuff is crap. No one does it like Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, etc. anymore. I mean there are some artists out there today that are still keeping real rock alive, but for the most part its garbage.
Tom petty and the heart breakers is one of my favorite classic rock bands
Have you ever listened to Mudcrutch? Its Tom Petty's band from before the Heart Breakers. They wrote some stuff together back in the day but never recorded it because of their manager. They got back together a few years ago and recorded all of the stuff from back in the day.
