So then, you're taking a reductionist standpoint (I think we have a lot in common - I'm a reductionist too!). But then, how does this translate to consciousness? How come we perceive this? How does the material or physical truth translate to us perceiving and thinking?
I can't really put it more simple than simply "Chemical reactions in the brain", unfortunately I only have ten minutes before I leave. Materiel and physical truth are their, whatever we see or not. We can perceive this do to our sensory organs, nerves, mouth whatever. Which of course all goes back to the brain, where everything comes together and "the mind" is formed. I am sorry for this rather hastily put together and horrible explanation, as well for its vagueness, but I am doing several things at the moment.

What I'm saying is if you saw all the molecules in my brain right now and you had a computer software to decipher what I was thinking, then where in those molecules and the chemical reactions in my brain does "consciousness" exist? I'm not asking what creates feelings - I'm asking what creates "being" for humans - what lets us know that we exist?
My understanding is that "consciousness" is when you have basically full ability to control yourself. So shouldn't you already know that you exist. This just seems to be on of the things where its something you understand, but when you try to explain it, you make the person have more questions than answers.

Yes - but we are contemplating "how" consciousness exists - how would you exist if all we were was a collection of atoms and physical forces and chemical reactions? Where in those atoms do we exist that we can have the perceived ability of choice?
Well, its all beyond my contemplation. I'm sure you could ask a scientist about it. But I don't know any scientists... wait actually my 1st period science teacher. But idk if I'd ask him. Back to the topic though.
We would still exist if we were just a ball of atoms, but no one would know we were there, we wouldn't know we were there, and we wouldn't know that no one else knew we were there. The atoms don't really have the ability of choice in this case, its all just in DNA, but now I'm getting into cells. Cells are told what to do based on their DNA, but what tells an atom what to do? There isn't any DNA in an atom.

And about your question, just more proof that there needs to be more awareness. Inivisible Children is an organization that is trying to help stop the war in Uganda. The LRA are abducting children, and forcing them to become "child soldiers" and fight in their rebel army. So what Invisible Children is trying to do is raise money to do three things;
make radio towers to help alert surrounding communities about the LRA, so when they're coming, the villagers have a warning so they can prepare to hide.
The 2nd step is to set up rescue squads that go out and search for children that escaped from the LRA. When they escape, they are often hundreds of miles away from their homes. So step two will help stop this by organizing search & rescue teams to find these lost children.
The third and final step is to set up rehabilitation centers to help counsel children that went through the truama of being a child soldier. Only after they go through this, can they go home to their families.
The idea is that, on April 25th, everyone who signed up to make a donation page, will be silent for 25 hours, trying to raise $25. The idea is that we will raise enough money to do the 1-2-3 plan, called the protection plan. You can donate at this link.
