this is my list on the greatest guitarists of all time in all genres.
Criteria: innovation, respect from guitarists, influence on other players and on styles of playing, other forms of overall infuence as a whole, technical skill, creativity, versatility, musical depth, live energy, improv skills.
ALSO NOT TO BE A CYNIC FANBOY, BUT TYMON KRUIDENIER. His work with Cynic and Exivious shows fantastic but restrained technical skill that never devolves into (flameshield) Dream-Theater-level wankery, and it's all awesome, experimental jazz metal in its truest form.
Well, he hasn't been an influence on much of anybody outside of the notable splash in the experimental prog metal corner of things, but he has all of the ability-related stuff down.
time to bring in the awesome. i dont have then in a top 10 style list bt here are the awesomest guitarists in my opinion.
Kai Hansen - ex-Helloween, ex-Iron Savior, Gamma Ray Dave Mustain - ex-Metallica, Megadeth Dave Murry - Iron Maiden Janick Gers - Iron Maiden Adrian Smith - Iron Maiden Kirk Hammett - ex-Exodus, Metallica Michael Angelo [Batio] - Nitro Tom Morello - ex-Audio Slave, Rage Against The Machine, The Nightwatchman (among other side projects) Buckethead - solo Zakk Wylde - ex-Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society Ted Nugent - solo (among other side projects) Timo Tolkki - ex-Stratovarius, Revolution Renaissance, solo Marty Friedman - ex-Megadeth, solo (mainly)
those are ma favs once again, not in any order, they all just awesome
the people i would add to this list in the honerable mentions section would be, eric clapton, stevie ray vaughan, carlos santana and les paul.
im standing by the fact that i know more about guitarists then any of you guys. no offense but i probably do. anybody semi knowleged on the history of the instrument would never put him on a list like this. not even CLOSE to worthy.
and i meant slash in my comment lol. slash is a joke to what these guys have done for guitar and music as a whole. slash is only famous for being in guns and roses and looking cool. quite frankly i cant quite understand guns and roses fame either though.
