I don't know if I should post this in this forum, but I am tired of poeple using words like "Jack Off" all the time! Its inappropriate and creepy. Every other post I see this type of junk. I know other users agree with me to some extent. So I ask for a word block, or something to prevent this. Thankyou.

Do you mean in the tavern? Well, I do see that quite a lot in there and this is why I don't go there often, because it's mainly filled with immature children and the cognitively challenged.

I don't see a problem with people using the word, but there must be a restriction to how you use it, when to use it and just not over due it with talking about your habits.

I'm so used to people swearing like mad in real life that I don't get that impressed now, but however I think it's quite hard word to block, because if I say I threw jack off the roof or something like that (I don't even know if that sentence is correct) it would be erased.
the word blocker is already doing dumb things actually.
It's much more safe to ask a mod if they think the post is inappropriate, in my opinion.

jack off jack off jack off jack off....

er.....

The problem with this is, there both such common words!

Jack is a name, so If my name is Jack, I can't post my name?

And what if jack and off are being used side by side like i nthe sentence "I pushed jack off the candle stick"

It would come up "I pushed **** *** the candle stick" Makes it look like a terrible sentence, right?

I think there's a problem with using very literal tools. It's the proverbial sledgehammer (vbg) being used to crack a small nut.

I once ran up against a similar problem in a genealogy chatroom where there was such filtering, and we needed to talk about a place in England called S****horpe. Every attempt to comment using the name of the place was automatically rejected.

As others have suggested, I think moderation by real people is probably the better way to go, particularly if it is accompanied by restrictions for those who continue to infringe.

Whoops, whoda thunk it? I didn't expect to run up against such filtering software here, but it's just happened. FWIW, the asterisked out letters above (in alphabetical order) are C, N, T and U. I'll leave anyone reading this to rearrange them into an objectionable term that forms part of the above place name. QED.

We can neither censor the word 'jack' or 'off.' As skater put it so nicely.

The only thing I can tell you, is if it is being used in an inappropriate way, report it to a moderator so we can investigate it.
