A lot of people have been asking me when the new edition of the 'CRBWC' would finally start (and I'm sorry it took me so long...), but I wanted to make the second edition even better and more fun than the first one!
(In case you wonder what the first one looked like: this is the 'CRBWC 2010'.)

After hours of fun (and stress!) in figuring out the new CRBWC schematics, the gathering of info on the participating bands and fabricating the additional pictures to it all, I'm proud of the final outcome and so, without further delay, let's kick off the 2011 edition of the

Now, some changes have been made to the second edition of this competition, so reading the rules and guidelines is something everyone needs to do, even the voters from last year's edition are advised to...

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5097/5530376806_b698294b37.jpg

The format of this World Cup for Classical Rock Bands is based upon the organisation schematics of the Soccer World Cup. It has the same rules as the Soccer World Cup in terms of competitors proceeding through it, but it will follow a few rules of its own too.
Below is a short guide to elaborate the >binding rules< for this competition:

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5220/5529789379_02f0090bc2_m.jpg

-The 'CRBWC' consist of a total of 24 rounds being presented one at a time.
-Each round will be open for voting for a maximum of 2 weeks or untill a band reaches the points limit.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5178/5529789643_2c342038b7.jpg

-Each user of ArmorGames who wants to give a vote has the possibility to vote only once per round.
-All votes given by users are obligated to consist of an elaborated reasoning as to 'why' you choose these two bands. Votes lacking a proper elaborated reasoning, for example: "I like them" or "They rule", will not be counted. Elaborate on why you like them and talk about them, that's the main goal of this competition!
-Different to last year's edition, this time each vote in the group stage of this competition will consist of naming a "First choice" with with a value of 3 points and a "Second choice" with a value of 1 point.
-You only get to vote for two bands in a group. NO double voting for a single band and/or NO voting for more than two bands per group. No exceptions will be made in this matter.
-If two bands reach the limit of 30 points at the same time, the band with the most "First choices" will be declared as the winner of that round.
-The rule explained above, also applies if two bands reach a similar point count for second place at the same time in the 'Group Stage'.
-If, for any reason, two bands reach the limit of 30 points simultaniously and both have an equal amount of first and second choices, the band getting it's 'winning vote' first will be declared the winner.
-Further rounds after the group stage will have a 1 point count for each vote given and an according 10 points limit. Rules for declaring a winner will be applied according to the group stage rules.
-No discussions about the ruling on the outcome of a round are allowed.

-Ranking of third and fourth place in this Final is decided upon the band that reaches the 10 points limit first.

THE FINAL MATCH:
-The Final match is held between both winning bands from the semi finals.

-The remaining band is ranked #2 in this competition.

-There will be NO playoffs held in this competition.
-You don't get to complain when 'your band' is eliminated from the competition. "Take the pain..."
-Swearing and obscene language is not tolerated. Always respect the opinion(s) of the other users participating in this thread, even if you disagree with their reasoning.
-If any situation should occur that is not explained and/or guided by the thread's rules, the 'Armor Games Community Forum Rules and Regulations' and the 'Popular Media Rules ("Read these rules or else...&quot' apply and are to be followed for this 'Classic Rock Bands World Cup'. They will be referred to when needed.
You can find them here:

Since this year's 'CRBWC' competition has a little more stuff to work with, I will start off as the sole Moderator for it, but there might be other moderators assigned over time if/when I see fit. Don't ask me for an assignment, since I will only assign people I know to have the same devotion to this competition and they will be revealed when the time comes, ok?

And last, but certainly not least... take heed:
!!! OFFICIAL AG ADMINISTRATORS AND MODERATORS WILL ALWAYS HAVE A BINDING WORD !!!
So, whenever an AG administrator or moderator visits this thread and decides to alter/delete a user's post or take action on an item or discussion, listen and obide to them as you would throughout the rest of the ArmorGames website.

I hope the AG users will like and participate in this 'Classic Rock Bands World Cup'!
So my main advice to all participants is to simply... ENJOY!!!

Now... enough with the talk... shove everything aside and...

SCORPIONS!!!

Pretty clear for me. I saw them live on their last tour, and the ambience was grandiose! But I already loved their music long before, especially their ballads. Rare is the rock music that sounds more soulful than theirs. And yet they have many non-ballad songs that really rock.

Van Halen is also famous and good, I just never really got into their music and they don't hit my musical preferences as much the Scorpions.

Van Halen. Like Ernie said they are just more distinct and I think they have a better sound. While I could probably not name Van Halen songs of the top of my head, when I listened to a few I really liked them.

Scorpions are good, but I have Rock You Like A Hurricane is the only one that I really like and gets stuck in my head.

It was close for me but yes I choose Van Halen over the Scorpions.

Scorpions, I like their harder style more. Van Halen is more talented though

This really isn't that hard to choose for me. Van Halen all the way! David Lee Roth is an amazing lead singer, and then what the Van Halen brothers can do on their instruments in incredible. Everyone knows Eddie for Eruption, but he also does a hell of a job on his guitar during "Cathedral". Meanwhile, Alex plays the drums very well; just listen to the start of "Hot for Teacher". And then with the incredible bass of Michael Anthony, Van Halen just can't be beat (in this round).

i haven't heard the new stuff much yet, but now that Wolfgang is on the bass, Van Halen is more Van Halen than Van Halen ever was Van Halen.

Yo dog, I heard you like Van Halen, so we put Van Halen, Van Halen, and Van Halen in your Van Halen so you can listen to Van Halen while you listen to Van Halen while you listen to Van Halen

Hmm... I just lost everything I typed...

But, my vote goes for Van Halen

I think Eddie is a better guitarist and David is a better vocalist to sum up my long comment. Just because I'm too lazy to re-type it.

Van Halen gets my vote. They have a great and distinct sound like some others said, and Eddie is flat-out amazing on guitar.

Meh. Not too fond of either of them, though 'Tease Me - Please Me' is allright in my opinion. So the Scorpions, as the lesser of two evils, get my vote.

I don't like either o them that much... I do have some Van Halen songs i like, i have guitar hero van halen, . In my opinion, these bands aren' that good. And for some reason everytime i think of Van Halen, i think of Aerosmith. Thats how boring they seem But the scorpions... i always think of one song, Rock Me Like A Huricane. I love that song, and in the battle of the unpopular bands, my vote goes too...

The Scorpions!!!

Nice to see so many votes come in! Man... that really surprised me! Guess that's what you get from being used to slow forum activity after a while... =P

@ AvengedSevenfold11 (#1): Ahm... dude... which band are you voting for?! You state a plus for the Scorpions, but also a plus for Van Halen, so... which band is your vote for? Elaborate please... =)

@ FALLEN950 : VEEEERRRYYY thin reasoning there man, but it's counted... and listen, I know it's stupid when you loose everything you just typed, but come on! Man up and type it again! You owe that much to this great music genre...

@ AvengedSevenfold11 (#2): And they seem to lack interest in Metal I guess lately... maybe this will change when the new competition will be launched, who knows?!

@ Maverick4 : Really? The lesser of two evils? Ouch... never knew you didn't like these two bands! =/

And a second score count shows us :
___________________________________

K.O. round # G :

8 - Van Halen
3 - Scorpions

___________________________________

Van Halen is pulling away a bit here... but the Scorpions are not giving up just yet! They try to stand ground and put up a fight! And seeing as the battle isn't decided yet... anything's still possible! =)

Decide the winner by stating that elaborated vote! Come on people! VOTE!!!

Am I the only one who gives my vote to the Scorpions because they're awesome??

What's up with the Wind of Change, or He's a Woman, She's a Man, or even No Limit to name a newer one? And I could go on and on...

OK then here is my vote.

For those who do not want to read all this, Van Halen

Van Halen, in one of their pieces use a piano in their songs. OK pretty normal everyone does that at some point. But a bright piano? An instrument not so appreciated by the musical world because the tone was ''wrong''. However, the instrument is less blended and opens up the sound as is therefore very good when working with bass and electric guitars. This is because electrics are more ''blended'' (ie you cannot pick out each individual string when strummed compared to a good acoustic where you can) and makes the sound more ''muddy''. Also, the bright piano ads more texture than a grand if needed to. It may be hard to understand the concept of this but it is important not to incarcerate yourself within the thought that an instrument can only add one ''level'' texture. The bright can add 2 or 3 (It is important to note that there is more than one type of bright piano and must not be confused) It is interesting to see a band experiment with the sound like this whether it is intentional or not. I would really like to see a band rock out with a mandocello (bass version of a mandolin) but I guess that's just be. LOL

When it comes to the official video of the songs, scorpion do better. There have a wider range of ideas, concepts, colours and styles. Van Halen's do not vary as much I think. This makes the music slightly more versatile.

As I am a person who does PA/DJ I think it is important to consider which band would be easier to set up for a PA. I think it would be van Halen because their music is less ''heavy'' if you can grasp what I mean and therefore will cause less of a feedback problem. The way scorpio move around when singing makes them more liable to feedback if they have monitors. They also would not work with a loop. Not that they are likely to have a loop but anyway. This problem could prevented by a filter or a compressor but it would take the ambience and or dynamics out of the piece.

Van Halen are more versatile in their music and have amazing guitar pieces that take more than one form which I do not think can really be said for scorpio. Also, Van Halen use a wider range of guitar effects. In fact, the guitar is just totally amazing and everyone knows it because just listen to it!!! And everyone says its good too. Which does say something.

The drums is Van Halens music are really strong and powerful. They really hold it all together and they are pretty good too. Not really complicated and thats the thing, they don't go mental on everything which is something that I think scorpion do a bit.

There is a strong use of lots of guitars in scorpions music but Van Halen have loads of synth in there as well. I love synths, partly because I have and synthesizer (as well as three guitars). They have a really cool use of a sweep synth which is not used in todays music. I think that this makes it different to other bands. Anyway I think is probably not good enough elaboration for MrDayCee hey?

Also there is a scorpion song that I think scorpion made a very bad muck up of and I do not think that it is acceptable for bands to make big muck ups.

There was a lot more for me to put and some better stuff to put as well but a certain MrDayCee was sort of hurrying me to put it up. LOL its here!! (and also because I want to play exitpath and because I made a whole song today and I'm a bit tired)

VAN HALEN ALL THE WAY. One day one of those scorpion guys will throw his guitar around a bit too much and kill someone with it.

Fine fine fine...

I think Van Halen is better because David Lee Roth, in my opinion, is one of the best vocalists in Classic Rock history. I grew up around a lot of Classic Rock, and Van Halen was one of my favorites. I never really got into Scorpions. Van Halen is more main stream, and just a better band all around.

Eddie's guitar skills are much better than Rudolf Schenker's. Both bands have amazing songs, but I think Van Halen's use of "odd" items in their music makes it that much better, like the drill in Poundcake? I love that.

Sammy, in Why Can't This Be Love, also, does an amazing job singing. Not only are the lyrics powerful but the background synth is good too.

I tell myself,
"Hey! Only fools rush in"
Only time will tell
If we stand the test of time
All I know
You've got to run to win and
I'll be ****** if i'll get caught up on the line. Hey!

Just amazing lyrics.

So, again, my vote goes for Van Halen.
