Other than that, I prefer strategy because of this genre's depth and more thoughful and skillful programming involved but otherwise it's pretty close just like you said except the fact that there should be an RPG category on this website from my opinion. But there are not a lot of RPG games out there, at least any good ones.
Your definitions of the genres are vastly oversimplified. RPG and strategy games have much more to them than just what you described. I enjoy both types of games, with individual exceptions, of course.
Hmm, this is difficult question, I like them both.But I have to say that strategy games are better imo, since usually they are less repeative and they have more playability.Usually I play rpgs just to beat them with all off the classes, but on strategy games I return playing again and again.
I enjoy both but I would love a game where you could switch between unit control+Building and be one of the units.
I know one of game like that; Echoes:Operation stranglehold.You build your base, command units and play as one unit.However, its under action games :S
