I am currently doing the universe in science at school. But what he has said has totally thrown me. Apparently, most scientists reckon that at the end (or edge, if you prefer.) of the universe there is probably nothing. Zero. Darkness. Complete emptiness. How could this be? What is outside our universe? More universes? GOD? Or completely nothing?

But how could that be? What would happen if you threw an object into completely nothing? What is outside there?

There are many theories as to whether or not the universe really is infinite or not. I guess you're thinking that it isn't. Scientists have been wrong about things in the past, but I don't know if they're wrong here.

i think that the universe is going to be little and little ! the universe decrease of volume, if a planet go in that possible dark ? it will be destroyed ? no ? its very simple and scary ! :S

this is all theoretical of course, but what has been put forward is that the universe is expanding. the further away from the center of the universe the faster it expands so first off you wouldn't be able to see any thing because space is expanding faster than the speed of light which also means that you aren't going to be able to throw anything fast enough to make it outside the universe.

if you throw a object into nothing would there be nothing anymore or would it be something?

Maybe they call it nothingness because it's so dark since we're inside a box sitting on a shelf with the label COLLECTORS FINEST UNIVERSE! on it.

true very true

Maybe it's some sort of wrap or something where if you go far enough in one direction, you go through the opposite side.

Thats what I thought Joe but maybe its just more space. Or empty space. Its just one of those things we may never know.

Actually it's debated whether there is an edge to the universe. This has to do with the universe expanding faster then the speed of light.

I assume there are more universes outside our universe. Wait a minute... If there are galaxies in universes, and solar systems in galaxies, and planets and stars in solar systems, what are universes in? Hm...

Very interesting haha, it would have something in it so it would not be nothing anymore i reckon.

But it's all theories, apparently there is evidence that the universe is growing faster than the speed of light because of the big bang theory, and apparently evidence supports this theory.

But in my opinion (and I'm no scientist) I figure the universe is and always has been infinite. But that's just my guess, the big bang theory just does not make enough sense to me. Why would the molecules or the "forces" or whatever be there if there was nothing there before?

Has anyone imagined EVERYTHING as in starts planets universe, being all of it just dirt under someones shoes? Maybe we are a big science experiment? We are all germs in a lab...hell maybe we are all a simulation game.

Well then, what might be controlling the ones controlling us? More organisms messing with them? Or just nothing?
