Actually 3-2. The game is obviously a sequel. You're all (except Muse) forgetting that the game continues the story of Ezio AND Desmond! The story moves Desmond's story up A LOT! It's a continuation of the story, so it's a sequel.
Aaaand, end. Discussion about whether a game is a third game or not is one thing, but using two page on it, while calling each other various degrees of stupid is another.
