Haven't we all seen a bit too much about the Sonny series? But specifically the rumored Sonny 3? What do you think? IS the series overrated? IS the series over hyped? IS it WAY too much fun, if you asked me, yes. Yes to all 3 questions. Opinions?
There's so much speculation over Sonny 3 because of the fact that new users turn up here every day and play Sonny 2 for the first time, then they immediately jump onto the forums to talk about it and demand a third. As for the game itself, it's one of the finest achievements ever done by a flash game developer and immensely fun from start to finish.
I only played Sonny 2, and it was a great game, you don't see much voice acting in many flash games. But I don't think its the best game ever, because the whole game revolves around turn-based combat, and if a game only has that, then the combat better be perfect, and Sonny makes it pretty close, but I feel it got boring after a while, but it is a pretty good game, I did beat it so that tells how much interest I have in the game. If there is a 3rd one, I would probably play it.
I would not say overrated, its a fun game that has some re-playability. Over hyped, maybe, but that can happen if you get people really into a game and they want everyone to try it and for another sequel.
I would say anyone who enjoys flash games should give it a go, you'll have a good time.
The game balance seems, at least at a first glance, very bad.
I couldn't bother finishing Sonny 2 because the tunnel section is the Realm of the Annoying Creatures That Regenerate Instantly Forever. The roach was bad enough, but then the next fight pulls the same kind of trick? To heck with it. What's even the point of displaying a health bar for the enemies if it's a completely useless and irrelevant info?
The entire point of Sonny 2 battles is finding the right strategy using your team-mates and your entire ability tree for each fight. Even if it seems un-winnable there is always a way. If you weren't able to complete the tunnel of illusions then I suggest you either check out a guide (of which there are many) or move on to simpler games such as... the last stand.
