Hey, I was just wondering what you guys know about the Far Lands and if any of you have been there. If you don't know what the Far Lands is, it's the corner of the map where the weirdest things happen. I have some information on it, I just want to get a better look at it.
I have been to the far lands, both where the map generator smarts making odd formations and where it stops generating anything at all. It was quite interesting, but you need a powerful processor to go to, and remain, in the far lands.
Notch had a technical post about this a while ago. Weird things start to happen due to rounding errors. Weird formations are generated, you could randomly get stuck in floors or walls, and im guessing you will commonly find void below bedrock.
That reminds me, if you go out far enough you have to be able to fly to see anything. Otherwise you fall through anything(blocks, bedrock), it all becomes just an image at one point before fading into nothing.
I believe Notch himself explained the issue in one of his blog posts. I've never been that far and most likely never will, as apart from the amusement value, I don't see much point in creating my game unstable. Screenshots of terrain generated there look rather lovely though.

Nice link master, tells a lot. If anyone has gone to the far lands themselves and took a screenshot of it, that would be great. I'd like to see more of the far lands, and I'm planning to go there on my dad's mac maybe.
