When you meet a new friend do you ever tell your religion in around the first or two weeks of being friends? Or do you just kind of hope the question doesn't come up? I myself am an atheist, and judge me if you will, don't like telling my friends that.
I guess this thread is directed to atheists, but I'd like to know how religious people respond to these questions. I guess that if your friends don't accept your religion, they're not really friends though.
I personally don't care what religion people have. It's not my place to judge them for better or worse. I personally am a Christian, and many of my friends are atheists. I have no problem with it, in fact, we never talk about it.
I usually don't tell people unless it comes up in a conversation, or I might invite them to a church function if we're doing something I think he/ she would like. Nice question
I dont really care about their religion as long as they are willing to accept me as a friend. I being a Christian have atheist, muslim friends and it does not matter because we get along well with each other even if the topic of religion comes about.

I don't dread the question and I don't really bring it up unless the topic comes up. I tend to worry about it more if I'm doing an odd job for the person as it can cost me.
I never even think about it unless it comes up, and I guess I am usually pretty proud to say I'm an atheist. If they start asking me questions about what about an afterlife and your soul and the meaning of life etc, I just tell them my views even if it makes me look like an "emo" or whatever lol. I have plenty of religious friends that don't mind at all and even some that I have converted to Atheism, it's all whatever really as long as people are open minded.

Same for me, it's just something that's not important (in my life) and thus just doesn't come up as a topic. It's sort of like asking, do you have a conversation about squirrles withen the first 2 weeks of knowing someone, and if you don't give a **** about squirrles, it's not going to come up as a topic.

I forgot to say,I once had two friends. The second I told them I was atheist, BOOM. "We have to save him! Let's call upon the Holy Spirit!" Now, you believe in God, that's cool. Oh you want to convert me? Not so cool. They prayed to the Holy Spirit, then they thought that a basketball moved and that it was the Spirit's doing. This is why I don't like telling people I'm atheist. I actually usually say I'm Christian if I'm hanging with somebody on Xbox Live. I really shouldn't be ashamed once I think about it. Screw people who don't like me because of what I believe in.

These are not good christian friends. Yes, they want to spread God's word but they should not go around just forcing people to convert. Hey, Im Christian and Youre Atheist and i accept you as a brother. I have no will to change you as long as you dont want to. Its a choice.
I actually dislike telling people I'm atheist, because where I live (Poland) atheists OFFICIALLY don't exist. Officially. There's quite lot of them, but for some reason official government statistics use Catholic Church's statistics, which rate amount of BAPTISED. And, because of bad methodology, possibly overrate that number too. These things mean, people just seem to don't believe me I'm unbeliever, try to convert me (not only catholics to be sincere), or prove me I'm just "experiencing faith crisis" (yeah, and dead persons experience serious life crisis...). Also, I'm "heated discussion" type of person, so I probably would keep arguing instead of shutting up, like I should. So I prefer to evade such topics. Or, when it comes to, stray into philosophy instead. Often works.
hen they thought that a basketball moved and that it was the Spirit's doing.
That's just odd...
I immediately tell people I'm Catholic, then if they say they aren't, I try as hard as I can to convert them, and if that doesn't work then I ignore them. They aren't worth my time.

Forcing your religion on someone is awful. Coming from a Christian, that's just dumb. Any form of spirituality has to be found from on the inside, it is not something that can be forced upon people. The church I go to is antibaptist, which means we really don't force it on people, and we let people believe what they want to. We also don't do infantile baptisms, but our doors are always open for a questing heart.
Heh, that one seems at least logical... frocing religion on someone is like door-to-door sale. "Good morning, sir, are you interested into our new fresh God? We add meaning of life for free..." Wait a moment... I just realised some religions DO that... :O (No offense meant, naturally.)

You're probably thinking of the Jehovah's Witnesses. I hate the way they preach too.
Anyways, if you have a religion, it may be a good idea to at least say that you are that religion toward the start of the friendship. It is not always great to keep that sort of belief a secret.
