I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to search through this forum, maybe it was asked once before... Gemcraft 0, what are hues for? I mean the color differences between the same type of gems and the number? If you know, could you please tell me all about the mechanics of it ?(what it does and how is best to use, if at all, why my duals change color closer to the one last merged etc) Thanks in advance

A hue is a 360-degree value representing color, where 0 and 360 mean red, 120 means green, 240 means blue. If you combine two gems, the resultant gem has average hue, the value closer to both starting hues is chosen. Say one gem has 250 hue, the other gem has 30 hue, the two possible values are 140 and 320, the latter is taken because the arc from 250 to 0 to 30 is shorter (140 degrees) than the arc from 250 to 180 to 30. The actual mechanics of how hue affects damage is undetermined, but in general the greater is the difference between hues of monster and gem (in terms of arc distance) the more damage does the gem do against that monster.

For instance, on the last level with 228 waves, all the monsters have hues 0-30, meaning it is best if your damage gems are hue ~195.

Thanks guys! And how about the effectiveness? Does it give like... max damage all the time? Or is it small, about 1-5%?

According to Honza, he did a test, and he felt like it did about 3 times the damage with correct hue! It's certain it makes a huge difference!

I'm sure that if your gem's hue is 180 and your monster's hue is 0, the monster would be weak against the gem.
