I know that this is very ironic because I'm asking this on the Internet, but does too much of the Internet cause depression? I, personally say yes. Yesterday, I had nothing to do so I spend most of the day on the Internet and at the end of the day I felt pretty down. Nothing a good hamburger and milkshake couldn't fix!
And I'm not the only one too say so according to a study, 1,2% of people surveyed were "Internet addicts" and most of them were depressed

What do you guys think?

I think the internet is a place they go when they're depressed. But than again, It's an online survey so It could just be spammers, and people like that, lying.

Personally, I spend most of my time on the internet, mostly on these forums. I never feel depressed. In fact, I come here to cheer myself up. Trust me, I feel much better.

they do say something about these people neglecting things like communication with people face to face and exercise wich affects their wellbeing.

I actually excercise about 3-4 times a week, so I'm good there. As for socialization, I am extremely evasive towards conversations. But I've been like that since birth, so the internet didn't change anything.

Depends on the person, circumstances, and what you do. The internet is everything compressed into one, so it's not the internet, it's the way you use it.

If you just look up porn all day, then you might get depressed, but if you just chat on Facebook, there is no reason you should get depressed since you're chatting with your friends.

actually i find it amusing that with the amount of time i spend on the computer (about 5 hours a day because of school) that i am still quite fit and not fat at all (i also eat alot without gaining weight which is pretty cool) but i guess the reason why most people who play on the internet alot are depressed is because they dont find good uses for their time spent on the computer and end up walking away from it all with nothing

I don't think so. I use the Internet for a good time every day and I am not depressed. People are different so in some cases, it causes depression or a way to try to be happier. For example, a guy killed 13 kids/teens at school in my country because he was too much antisocial, depressed and used the internet a lot. So he bought guns and learned techniques by internet and killed kids.

To everyone talking about being fit, if you weren't on your computer right now, would you be exercising? If i wasn't on armor games right now i would be doing homework, reading, or watching TV. Also, I spend a lot of time on my computer and I'm in a lot better shape than a lot of my friends.

If the internet is what makes your depressed, then I don't think you should be allowed to interact with society, for fear of you having an anxiety attack or something.

Who said I was depressed? I was never depressed. But at the time I was already in a low mood and the Internet made it even worst, but know I'm happier than ever!

I can see how it would lead to it... if you are on the internet all the time you must not have many real friends and that could lead to depression

i dont think it will cause depression but i think it depends on the person and his life. for me its really different. being on the internet, learning about other places and talking to other people made me much more happy then i used to be. it really depends. i was sad and the internet made me feel better. it might do the opposite to someone else
