50 years ago on April 12th, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first man to enter space aboard Vostock-1 (Vosktock-3KA-3 to you Russian fans =D). NASA was less then one month behind when American, Alan Shepard launched on May 5th, 1961. It was thanks to these brave men that paved the way for other Astronauts and Cosmonauts to do things that were unthinkable less then 20 years before (such as going to the moon, the space shuttle, the ISS, those kinda things).

Anyway I agree. Man going to space is a important milestone in human history. It helped us understand the things around us much, much more.

Oh you like history? Then you might be interested to know that 66 years ago today, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died while in office? That 140 years ago the first shots were fired at Fort Sumter, starting the American civil war?
