50 years ago on April 12th, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first man to enter space aboard Vostock-1 (Vosktock-3KA-3 to you Russian fans =D). NASA was less then one month behind when American, Alan Shepard launched on May 5th, 1961. It was thanks to these brave men that paved the way for other Astronauts and Cosmonauts to do things that were unthinkable less then 20 years before (such as going to the moon, the space shuttle, the ISS, those kinda things).
to let some people know that 50 years ago today, the first man was launched into earth orbit.
