between a normal xbox game (that you get at gamestop, walmart, etc.) and a game that you download from the game marketplace on xbox live?
I'm asking this because the game I want to download on the marketplace is unusually cheap. And I figure there is something fishy about this.
Thanks.

Download it anyway, if its on the marketplace, that means it is authentic and genuine. It probably just means that it has crappy graphics or something. I dont know, I dont have an XBOX.

Well the main difference is that you don't have the box, and the manual. Which is fun to keep for some people. BUT you can't lose the disk. I prefer to get a game at a store.

When you buy a game from the Marketplace you'll download all the files rather than installing them via a disk. Games in the Xbox Live Marketplace are usually developed by much smaller companies called indies (independent developers). Their teams are much smaller than larger developers and as such they can afford to sell their games cheaper and still make revenue. Indie developers often can't cope with the costs of teaming with a publisher, getting packaging for the game and then acquiring shelf-space in the large retailers and are therefore forced to sell their games via digital distribution. Taking out such costs is also a reason why indies can afford to sell cheaper products.

Some examples could be Super Meat Boy which, after it's success as a digitally distributed game got a boxed Collector's Edition version because the company behind it (two man studio Team Meat) had enough money to fund such an extra. A first person shooter called Section 8 flopped as a boxed edition and so the developers sequel, Section 8: Prejudice (which comes out in 5 days) will be digital distribution so they can keep the cost low and therefore, hopefully, appeal to a wider audience.

Everything on the Marketplace is verified. It won't be fishy. Just out of interest, what are you buying?

Thanks for the clarification.
The game I am planning on getting is Dragon Age: 2. I thought it was fishy because it looks like such a good game.

dragon age 2 is, as far as i know considering the rest of the series, a great game. also, why would you find a game on the xbox marketplace fishy because it is good? there are lots of good games out there.
on ps3, you can even download some games that are discs of the ps store.
