Rome total war is cool. You command your troops to kill the other guys so fun.

I would hightly recommend Dawn of War 2: Retribution. While it has multiplayer components, it boasts multiple single player campaigns that are quite fun and have a lot of progression to them.

I am also a big Fallout:New Vegas but for a game that kind of flew under the radar I would suggest Stalker: Call of Pripyat.
