you might start playing minecraft and if you do the first thing you think when you start your first game is "oh no i dont know how to survive this game! what do i do?!?" so i will tell you. the first objective is to find wood. once you have about 9 basic wood you should have enough. open the inventory with the I button. then craft all the blocks of wood. trust me having 36 plank blocks is better then 9 tree trunk blocks. slightly more usable. now you will want to make a crafting bench. this crafting bench should be relatively near a supply of coal. it takes 4 plank blocks (AKA all the crafting space you have of planks) to make a crafting bench. i will tell you about the coal later. now anyway you need to then craft some sticks (2 plank blocks in the crafting area in an upward line formation) for yet more things. it takes 2 stick stacks (lol) in the same line for crafting sticks in the middle of the 3X3 crafting area of the workbench and an entire row of 3 blocks of wooden planks along the top. now you have a basic wooden pick! you can actually dig the rocks and coal a bit faster then without a pick and (more importantly) you can harvest the blocks. now you will want to try and dig that coal up fast. the sun only stays for 10 minutes from spawn to night! and you spawned ages ago! anyway NEVER dig straight down. any experienced minecrafter will say this. suppose you drop into a deep pool of lava? all your work would be undone and the night would probably be close at hand. at night a ton of evil thingies try to kill you. now they only spawn in darkness so lets make some torches with a stick and some coal (told you) on it. now get mining into a wall and make a shelter. you will want to place a torch because the sun probably is no longer up and the dark is really spooky! now block off the entrance to your hidey-hole. yes i said block it off. dont worry you have torches! and you can leave 1 block unclosed unless its a roof block. thats to check the tims and to ensure spiders dont get in. they can squeeze into 2X1X1 gaps. other things go into 1X1X2 gaps. now you will want to mine a sort of wall to hide behind. but why? because the skeletons have bows. they also have a ton of arrows as well... anyway you need a wall between you and the skellies. arrows are 1X1X1 hitbox so duck behind the wall and wait the night out. congrats mate! thats your first night of minecraft survived! in the morning you can come out and explore some more. careful of the creepers though. they DONT burn up in sunlight like other creatures. hopefully you have your crafting table with you. if you do you can make a stone sword (or wood if you didnt mine into stone) and drive the creepers back! or punch them or whack them if you have not brought your crafting table. make sure you dont spend longer then 1 and a half seconds near a creeper or else... BOOM! headshot. i hope you have managed to use this guide effectively. enjoy!
ps if you went to the loo after you spawned just dig a hole and fall in and block it off when you hop in it. careful that its not bigger then a 1X1X3 (the 3s so you can place the dirt over the top again) or you might die a horrible nasty death by evil thingies.
fantasy4life! you need a pickaxe to be able to SAVE the stone and mine fast enough to make it in before night! victor12! suppose you didnt know that all those sites existed? highfire! i always lay this out as a wall of text AND you should try learning to read walls of text! myself! dont make such a crappy guide in future!
In agreement with fantasy4life and Highfire, this tutorial could have easily been covered in a short 2-3 minute video on youtube. Although, the amount of effort put in the text just to show people how to play minecraft deserves credit.
A few tips though, spread out the text so we aren't reading a novel type post. Also, you forgot the important part of minecraft... do whatever the heck you want
I don't mind text tutorials, like when I wanted to learn the instant respawn glitch in Halo 3 instead of wasting time watching a 3 min video I read a forum post on Bungie.net in about 15secs. Nice work on the tut.
