I view war as an integral part of society. Just the threat of war makes golbal economy better and, in some cases, even stimulate the economy of countries. Is war just a needless bloodshed, or is it an overall good thing for the world?

Improving the economy is definitely not a cause worth the deaths of thousands.

Though, I can see a point in what you were saying. In social sciences class in high school our teacher sort of asked the same question. A lot of inventions that are now used to improve people's everyday lives are the product of military research, for example.

This is true, but it's also a huge simplification.

I came across an article about this, and it mentions some inventions which has been the product of military research, such as satellite and radar technology, the internet, rubber, Penicillin, Teflon and anesthesia.

I believe war is really needed, also with our large population it would help cut it down and help stimulate many new inventions, economy etc. how do you think we got out of the great depression? Inventions, economy etc. make the world go round not human lives (i disregard the ethics of the discussion)

How do you think we get in the great depression in first place?

make the world go round not human lives

Sacrifice other people's lives so you and some others can have a better life. Sounds selfish.

Easy to say when your in the up part of life.

Sure wars made inventions, but the same inventions would have been invented anyways. It would of just taken a bit more time. And there where a few great scientists who where killed or hindered because of war.

Yes your right. How could we live a couple of years extra without duct-tape? Thank you millions of Jews who died. Oh and what would we have done without oil? Thank you millions of Arabs who suffered and are still suffering to keep the gas price low. No, it defiantly sounds selfish. They don't want to suffer so some people can have a better life, so why would they? It's like saying you would kill a child so you can get a better toy.

Okayyy? The selfishness was related to the benefices some people get over the suffering of others, but okay, whatever.

Sure, if the soldier dies for the lives of many other people then it's not selfish, but that's not what I was referring to.

Or maybe, your talking that only the soldiers lives count and the millions of civilians don't count? Most of the time there are more civilian casualties the solider casualties in a war. It's pure selfishness if a kid has to lose his parents for the pleasure and amusement of rich country/guy.

Depending on your position as a soldier.

If you are attacking and you like it you are selfish

If you are attacking and you hate it, but still willing to go to war, you are a fool.

If you are attacking and you have no choice then it would be acceptable.

If you are defending and you have no choice then you are weak

If you are defending and you are willing to do it, then you are selfless

I dont think any solider LIKES attacking really.
"Ours is not to reason why. Ours is but to do and die"
They attack and fight because it's their duty and they want to serve the country that they love and believe in
