I suggest you go with a different genre. If you're looking for competition, you must definitely go for Starcraft II (just look at any pro-games on YouTube, there are well over 500 by now, I've seen over 200 minimum, and that's just from one commentator).

That game is so mentally exhausting as well, I <3 the macro games though.

Mass Effect II had presented its story in such a cinematic fashion it was so unique, and I loved it. The ending (however it ended) was brilliant in every sense of the word and the characters you always feel a connection to because it's so immersive.

If you want something to scar your life that is incredibly immersive (if you play it properly) then I suggest Amnesia: The Dark Descent, described by many - and myself, as the scariest game ever. It's a horror game, but it doesn't use the cheap tactics of "BLAERGH!!!!" as a monster runs towards you as you go around the corner. It is audio sounds and atmospheric demonstration which makes this game so good.

If you're looking for, what you've said, then I don't know any good game that has a CoD feel to it (Homefront to my knowledge is terrible, and I can elaborate if you ask me on my profile), although if you want:
1) Finesse, then you can go with Battlefield or Medal of Honour for the bullet falling.
2) Improvisation, then you can go with Battlefield for its terraforming aspects (exaggerated word lol). Also Crysis 2, being able to use things around you as weapons (like cars) is great, I remember kicking a car into a guy and he slid under it, proceeding to beat me down.
That guy knows improvisation like the back of his hand.

The funny thing is, I done the same soon after, an enemy kicked a car at me, I slid under going into stealth and he checked behind the car to see where the hell I went.

He got assassinated moments after.
Then I got sniped by the guy who taught me the trick LOL. He must've been like "You cheeky sonova"... you get the idea.
3) Teamwork, then you can go with Battlefield or Crysis 2 because Battlefield games have always been based on Teamwork and Crysis 2's maps are set out (probably accidentally) so that allies can hop in, help you out and etc.

4) Quick-pace, then you can go with Crysis 2 or Medal of Honour (I haven't seen much of MoH but from what I saw it is quite fast paced), this is good to blow off some steam.

5) Being a *******, then you can go with Bulletstorm or CoD, both have their own ways of acting silly and one of the games (Bulletstorm) actually requires you to do it to gain points (indeed there is a "skillshot" that requires you to remove the manly aspect of a person). I like to do some stupid stuff on MW2 to see how people react and to annoy the team, like ninja-defusing.

Hey, if you like ninja defusing, go to the map "Estate", hide in a patch of grass with a Ghillie Suit and look at how blind the players are (I've had players run directly past me and man I love it).

Knife Only + Ghillie Suit is a viable playstyle, I've done better than normal players (by far) using this tactic and I tell ya, it feels good.

It's also what's gotten me so many friends on Steam, they were quite impressed and yeah, we kept doing it on and on and on and on.
Bloody nice thing to do

I agree with Highfire, Mass Effect is great and even if you're not looking for an RPG it's just a TPS invloving talking a bit.
