there were 3 guys who had just brought rocket launchers. unfortunately the rocket launchers had tax on them. the rocket launchers were originaly $10 each but due to the combo of a 10% discount and tax the 3 guys got a $ back. the guy who sold them the rocket launchers keeped $2 for tax. so that makes $30-$3+$2=$29 so WHERE HAD THE MISSING $ GONE? the guys had equal $ after the cafuffle. the guy who sold the rocket launchers had the dollars he was deserved. but a whole dollar has disappeared! note that the pickpockets are already all in jail and none have escaped.
This one was extremely poorly explained, and I've already heard it; you're not calculating the money that was paid, but something else, which does not have to add up to 30$, since it has nothing to do with the money they paid.
